Choose two artists that you have not heard before, then watch and listen to their featured songs.

Begin your post by providing the name of the two artists and the two songs to which you listened. Provide the links as well to both artist selections in your response; include APA formatting.

Next, one at a time, describe each selection, and answer the following questions for each.

    1. What is the performance like? What style of music did the artists perform?

    1. How do the musicians act?

    1. Does the music impact you?

    1. Does it resemble music you listen to regularly? Why or why not?

Seminar Option 2

This week’s reading refers to many standard-bearers of music: the people and groups you readily associate with a particular genre. In Seminar, you will discuss some of the genres and their standard bearers.

    1. In your own words, how can you best define folk, ragtime, jazz, rock, pop, and hip hop music? Have they influenced each other or do they seem distinct?

    1. Who do you see as being the new standard bearers in different genres? Why do you believe they achieve this status?

    1. What do the standard bearers communicate about the time, place, culture, influences, and circumstances that lead to these musical expressions?

Response 3

dentify the role you selected for yourself and the child age you selected. Explain at least two specific ways you would advise the child/adolescent who felt bullied on social media. Include talking points or specific actions that the child could take. Frame your approach within the research of peer relationships and social and emotional development. Explain how you would account for culture and gender in the approach you take.

For the purpose of this discussion, I have chosen to take on the role of a teacher and the youth will be a 12-year-old female.

Adolescent youth have an increased focus on peer relationships and worry about the acceptance from peers. One study found that many youths feel that bullying is a normal part of adolescence (Guerra, Williams, & Sadek, 2011). The same study found that females were more likely to engage in emotional bullying while males were more likely to engage in physical bullying and victimization (Guerra, Williams, & Sadek, 2011).

To mitigate bullying, first and foremost, when the youth explains to me that she is being bullied, I’ll assess to make sure there are no immediate safety concerns. I would recommend that the youth talk with his or her parents and other potential adults that could assist the youth on being safe at home. I would encourage the youth to disengage from any contact with the offenders. I would have the child and family engage in any programs that are offered at the school or in the community that will help educate the youth and family more on identifying and reducing bullying.

Recently, scientists have confirmed that the Zika virus is implicated in the dramatic rise in catastrophic birth defects in infants of mothers who are infected by this mosquito borne virus. The first confirmed cases were in Brazil, but the mosquito that carries this virus is widespread around the world in warm climates, including the southern states of the U.S. This species of mosquito is also known to transmit other disease viruses. As our planet warms, this species has an opportunity to increase its range, bringing additional disease threats to the U.S. We do not currently have many medicines to fight viruses, as we do with bacterial infections (antibiotics), so the scientific research efforts have been focused on the mosquito itself to stop the spread of this disease. Genetically engineered male mosquitoes have been developed, which cause the eggs of the females they mate with to be unable to hatch. Several different companies have slightly different genetic modifications that also prevent the mosquitoes from breeding or hatching live young. Millions of these GE males have been released in Brazil and talks are underway to release these mosquitoes in Florida, as well.

Completing this activity will assist you in mastering Module Level Outcomes 2 and 4.

First:

Read/review these articles and watch the video:

Next, post to the Discussion Board:

Scenario: The mosquito that can carry Zika and other diseases has been detected in your community. The town council is debating how best to deal with this problem before there are major health concerns for everyone in the community.

  • Prepare a position statement (250+ words) that you will deliver to your town council, friends, and neighbors when the authorities are contemplating releasing GE mosquitoes into your area. You may take a positive or negative stance on the issue, BUT you must support your position with facts, not opinions or scare tactics. You must present unbiased, scientific evidence to support your position.
  • Next, respond to at least two of your classmates who have taken the opposite position from yours. Bring forth in a positive, respectful, and helpful way, the scientific facts that may convince them to change their position.

Your initial post responding to this assignment should be no shorter than 250 words. Include both in-text citations and complete APA style references for all the sources you used to inform your work.

Social, Economic and Environmental Justice

The Center for Economic and Social Justice defines “social justice” as “giving to each what he or she is due.” “Economic justice” is concerned with determining what an individual’s “due” actually encompasses.

For this Discussion, select a case study in this week’s Readings. Review the case study, focusing on the social or economic justice issues at play in the situation described.

submit a description of a social or economic justice issue that is evident in the case. Suggest two strategies the social worker might employ to address the issue.

BELOW IS THE CASE STUDY

Working With Survivors of Sexual Abuse and Trauma: The Case of Angela Angela is a 27-year-old, Caucasian female, who first came to counseling to address her history of sexual abuse. She graduated from college with a BS in chemistry and has since been employed by pharmaceutical companies. After obtaining a new job, she relocated to an apartment in an East Coast city where she knew no one. Both of Angela’s parents live on the West Coast, and she has one younger brother who also lives in a different state. Angela has limited contact with both her mother and brother and does not have any contact with her father. Angela is obese and disclosed a history of struggling with her weight and eating issues. She has few friends, and those she does have live far away. Angela has a long history of trauma in her life. She was sexually abused between the ages of 9 and 21 by her father, sexually assaulted at the age of 14 by a classmate in school, and mugged as a young adult. There was domestic violence in the home, also perpetrated by her father. Angela’s father is considered an upstanding member of the community, and he is well liked and respected by others. No one in Angela’s family believes that she was sexually abused, and her father joined a “false memory syndrome” group and is outspoken about that issue. There has been little discussion in her family about what took place in the home while she was growing up. Angela struggled with daily functioning and exhibited symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She had a history of cutting herself and binge eating and displayed some characteristics of borderline personality disorder. Angela also mildly dissociated when under duress. Angela suffered from depression and anxiety and had trouble establishing new relationships, both socially and at work. Although Angela has a stable job and was able to complete her work each day, at times she became overwhelmed by her emotions and retreated to the bathroom where she cried and sometimes cut herself before returning to her workstation. Angela relied on writing, artwork, and her cat for solace  SOCIAL WORK CASE STUDIES: FOUNDATION YEAR 30 and comfort. She was also very active outdoors, often hiking, biking, and going on camping trips by herself. Her goals in life were to own her own home, lose weight, enjoy relationships with others, and find peace with her traumas. As a result of the abuse she experienced, it was necessary to begin treatment focusing heavily on establishing trust and a relationship with the client. After 1 year of therapy, deeper process work was being done around her traumas, and she was able to open up much more. She disclosed more painful experiences to the therapist and began expressing her feelings, including intense anger at her family members. Angela also joined a group for survivors of sexual violence in the same program where she was receiving individual therapy. She was thus able to meet other survivors and engage them in relationship building and obtain support. Over time, she lost 100 pounds and made new friends, and her level of functioning increased dramatically. Six months into the group, however, I noticed boundary issues between the members of the group and the group facilitator. After speaking with the group facilitator about these concerns and others regarding her clinical judgment and boundary crossing, the decision was made to terminate her. As a new group facilitator began engaging the group, I noticed that Angela was not sharing as much in her individual sessions and, overall, seemed guarded. I tried on numerous occasions to address the shift, and while Angela acknowledged that trust had become an issue, she would not directly express her concerns or feelings. After some discussion, I explained to Angela that while I could not discuss the issues concerning the group facilitator, she should feel free to talk about her feelings and concerns in general. However, it became obvious that trust could not be rebuilt, particularly in light of the professional boundary issues with the group facilitator. I asked if she wanted to terminate counseling with me and find a new therapist, and Angela agreed. I provided Angela with three referrals so that she could continue her treatment. I learned that Angela and the former group facilitator had become friends and remained so after both had left the program in their respective capacities. APPENDIX 105 activities as Veronica did. She went to school every day and did not appear very different from other children in her area. It is important to note that families in poverty-stricken countries like Guatemala are deceived by traffickers who offer them money equivalent to a year’s income in exchange for their children. All the details of this case are not clear as of yet but it is believed that the maternal aunt was working in conjunction with someone else. 9. Describe any additional personal reflections about this case. This was a hard case to digest. It is one of those cases that you end up taking home with you in your heart. This 13-year-old girl has been through a lifetime of exploitation. For the first few weeks she would just look at me as if she were looking right through me. She needed a lot of coaxing to participate. Although she still has a great deal of healing ahead of her, Veronica is in a much better place and is making every effort to live a normal life. Working With Survivors of Sexual Abuse and Trauma: The Case of Angela 1. What specific intervention strategies (skills, knowledge, etc.) did you use to address this client situation? Knowledge of trauma and child sexual abuse was key as was active listening, validation, boundary setting, and, at times, confrontation. 2. Which theory or theories did you use to guide your practice? I applied relational, cognitive behavioral, empowerment, and strengths-based theories. 3. What were the identified strengths of the client(s)? Angela’s strengths were her ability to persevere and be resilient, as well as her ability to find time for self-reflection and self-care. Despite everyone around her telling her otherwise, she was still able to stand firm in the knowledge that she was sexually abused and therefore needed to have clear boundaries with those who did not believe her. 4. What were the identified challenges faced by the client(s)? Angela’s challenges included an occasional inability to function at work, self-harm, and isolation. SOCIAL WORK CASE STUDIES: FOUNDATION YEAR 106 5. What were the agreed-upon goals to be met to address the concern?  The goals were to increase functioning, enhance ability to create and sustain relationships with others, reduce isolation, address and increase self-esteem, refrain from cutting, and work through early sexual trauma. 6. What local, state, or federal policies could (or did) affect this situation?  The statute of limitations in both civil and criminal cases affected Angela’s case. 7. How would you advocate for social change to positively affect this case?  I would advocate with legislators in the state to eliminate the statute of limitations so that survivors of sexual abuse could prosecute and/or sue their perpetrator when they were ready. 8. Were there any legal or ethical issues present in the case? If so, what were they and how were they addressed?  There were ethical issues regarding boundaries and dual relationships. The group facilitator in this case was inappropriate with her clients and became personal friends with this particular client along with the other women in the group. I addressed this by trying to work with the group facilitator, as well as by encouraging her to discuss this in her off-site clinical supervision. Because no change was occurring, eventually the group facilitator was terminated. 9. How can evidence-based practice be integrated into this situation?  The use of a sequenced, titrated approach using relational theory to address complex PTSD is incredibly helpful, especially for those survivors of sexual trauma with multiple victimizations and difficulty with daily functioning. 10. Describe any additional personal reflections about this case.  As the individual therapist, this case was heartbreaking for me. The relationship and trust I had built with this client was destroyed, and I was placed in a very precarious position. The client did not want to discuss the changing dynamic and had  APPENDIX 107 clearly been influenced by the group facilitator, who was incredibly friendly and outgoing. There was no other choice but termination, and the realization that the damage could not be repaired was disappointing. However, had I disclosed “my side” of what was happening, I would have been making the same errors as the group facilitator and involving myself in a dysfunctional and unhealthy dynamic, including crossing boundaries—exactly what survivors do not need. There are times when you must “swallow your pride” to do what is right and best for the client, especially given the different variables and considering the ethical issues at play. Working With Survivors of Sexual Abuse and Trauma: The Case of Brenna 1. What specific intervention strategies (skills, knowledge, etc.) did you use to address this client situation? I used reflective listening and reframing to assist Brenna in setting goals and determining her unmet needs. I used knowledge of local systems and social service agencies to provide referrals and to secure needed services. 2. Which theory or theories did you use to guide your practice? I utilized systems theory. 3. What were the identified strengths of the client(s)? Brenna’s strengths were her resiliency and self-sufficiency. Brenna viewed her desire to provide a better future for her child as a strong motivating factor for changing her life. 4. What were the identified challenges faced by the client(s)? Brenna lacked a familial support system and network of friends, and she was socially isolated. Upon entry to the shelter, she lacked medical care, employment, income, and housing. Brenna also struggled with difficulty reading and writing. Brenna had experienced trauma and violence in her past and would be raising her child alone. 5. What were the agreed-upon goals to be met to address the concern? Brenna and I agreed to secure medical care, a housing plan, and a source of income. Brenna also set goals to improve her mental health.

Assignment 1: Stress and Coping

Due by the due date assigned, Complete your participation for this assignment through the end of the module.

There are many different types of stress and various impacts that stressful situations can have on all areas of our health. Review these possible stress-provoking situations.

  • Sally is a hardworking young professional who was applauded for her work performance and given more responsibility. After a few months there is a rapid decline in her productivity and she is seen withdrawing from work. Sally’s new manager constantly criticizes her for her lack of productivity, which makes her performance worse, and causes her more worry.

Choose one situation to evaluate and answer the following questions:

  • Does this represent chronic or acute stress?
  • What type of response might the body and brain be experiencing to manage the stressor?
  • What would be the goal for coping with this stress? (eliminate, reduce, tolerate)
  • What type of coping strategy should be implemented—emotion-focused coping or problem-directed coping? How would the individual employ this approach? In other words, using this type of coping strategy, what could he or she do to cope with the stressor? Give 2 examples.
  • Write 2 “coping self-statements” the individual might make in response to this stressor. You will find some examples of coping self-statements in your textbook.
  • What are some of the potential long-term impacts on this individual’s health if he or she does not find a way to cope with this stressor?

Please be sure you address each question, using terms and concepts from your text. A good initial discussion response should be at least 150–250 words in length.

Ethics in Research ASAP

Ethics in Research 80 words

As noted in your book, psychological testing is often used in behavioral and social research. Most colleges and universities have a committee dedicated to approving human participant research, called the Institutional Review Board. In the past, certain types of research undertaken using human participants have been considered unethical. Refer to the Stanford Prison Experiment study, by clicking the title or the link provided below.

Based on the findings of this study and others, discuss what you consider to be important prerequisites for conducting research on human behavior by using human participants. Be sure to incorporate information on ethical principles drawn from the online content, the textbook, and other credible, scholarly sources such as the APA website listed below to substantiate the points you are making.  Apply APA standards for citations of sources.

Explain the importance of the Zimbardo study in guiding our decision-making as related to testing and research.

Social Networking

Social Networking

I have mixed feelings on this and I want the paper to kind of reflect that…. I feel if the person does not list their employer on their social media then they should not be judged by that because they are not associating them with that company they have the right to separate their work life and personal life but if they list the company they work for then I think the company has the right to judge them based on their page because they now listed them as an employer so now they chose to represent the company they work for and should be respectful in what they post because what you do now reflects the company you work for and all actions are linked to you and the company and since you chose to mix work and personal life you should be held accountable for anything that is questionable.

Who I am at work is not who I am at home so my facebook page would show that I am human and I will post things that I find funny, sad, silly as well as different pics of my adventures as well as my family life and as long as I keep them separate by no listing my employer on my page no one should have the right to concern themselves with what is on my social media pages.

In this assignment, you will explore the potential impact of social networking on the workplace. You would be surprised by what people can find out by simply Googling the name of a job applicant. Consider your own social networking participation. Do you believe there is anything on the web that could be potentially harmful to your chances of getting a particular job? If you have a personal page on a social networking site, what do you think it says to other people about you? Do your friends agree about the messages being conveyed? Is the impression of your digital self the image you want to be conveyed to a potential future employer? Juan Enriquez has recorded a very thought-provoking, short discourse on TedTalks regarding the permanent record we create of ourselves with social media. As a primer for this discussion, conduct an Internet search for “Juan Enriquez: Your online life, permanent as a tattoo” and view his talk.

Tasks:

Employers have based hiring decisions on social networking site content. In your response, answer the following questions:

  • Do you believe that assessing a candidate partially based on his or her social networking site (for example, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, or LinkedIn) is justified?
  • In what ways do employers using social networking sites for the evaluation of job candidates compare with school officials using these sites for student discipline?
  • What would your profile on social networking sites tell an employer about you?

Submission Details:

  •  respond in at least 2–3 paragraphs to this Discussion Area. Your response should rely upon at least two sources from professional literature. This may include the Argosy University online library resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, or .gov). Write in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources (i.e., APA format); and use accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
