Pick one Question

Discussion Question 1

Our readings this week focused on advanced practice roles that include blended roles of the CNS and NP, the CNM and the CRNA. In addition, you have had the opportunity to consider evolving and innovative roles that are emerging.

For this question, select a specialty (nurse educator, nurse informaticist, nurse administrator, nurse executive, nurse manager, and clinical nurse leader) that you think is in some stage of evolution toward advanced practice or has the potential to evolve. Conduct an Internet search (including the online library as well as specialty organizations) and address the following:

  • Examine the current stage in the specialty’s evolution.
  • Describe the reasons why the specialty has the potential to evolve.
  • Compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages for the specialty as it is evolving to the advanced practice level.

Discussion Question 2

The nurse administrator is an advanced practice role in nursing, and as such has very distinctive competencies. In addition to basic administrative skills, there are advanced administrative skills that can be acquired in this role:

  • Gathering information from current literature (your choice), and/or the American Organization of Nurse Executive Competencies, and/or the American Nurses Credentialing Center outline of competencies for nurse managers, compare and contrast the differences between the role of nurse manager, nurse administrator, and nurse executive. Please provide references to the sources that you choose to use.

Assignment

One of the most important things I hope you will take away from this class is an understanding of the layered and interconnected nature of events taking place in our world. For this assignment, students will be asked to find three news articles over the course of the semester from credible sites that cover specific events happening on various scales (local, regional, national, global). For example, you may find an article on a wildfire in California, or an impending decline of the world’s chocolate supply.

For each of the three assignments, you will be asked to:

1.) Clearly and thoughtfully summarize the article. What’s happening? Where?  And, according to the article, WHY is this occurring?

2.) Next, draw upon at least two additional sources (news or journal articles, websites, the textbook if relevant) to more deeply investigate the geographic forces or processes involved. The key is to situate a specific event/issue within a broader geographic understanding, digging deeper into the underlying factors and interconnections.

For example, an article from Global News titled “Are We Running Out of Chocolate and Wine?” states that by 2030, the global demand for cocoa will exceed the supply. The article links this specific issue to “disease, drought, rapacious new markets and the displacement of cacao by more-productive crops such as corn and rubber.” After summarizing the article and explaining why this is occurring according to the article, find at least two additional sources that help you to better understand and then explain the underlying contributing issues. Use them to dig deeper, considering how something relatively specific (like the global cocoa supply) is linked to broader environmental, political, social, cultural and/or economic issues.

You might find, for example, an article exploring the related environmental issues (i.e. a GlobalPost article titled “Why climate change could mean the end of chocolate”) and another looking in more depth at the displacement of cacao by more-productive crops (i.e. The World Cocoa Foundation’s website includes a page listing the challenges to growing and selling this crop).

3.) Finally, think critically and reflect on this issue and what you’ve learned about it. How does your investigation demonstrate the interconnections between people, places and/or processes? How are relatively specific events situated within broader geographic issues, or how might it affect other people and places? What major global issues are at work in this specific incidence? How is an economic issue, let’s say, also tied to politics, environment, culture? Did anything surprise you? Concern you?

An example Current Event Assignment is posted on D2L along with the assignment write-up and rubric. Papers should be double-spaced, articles should be current (published within the month of due date) and sources should be cited both in-text (ex: Knox & Marston 2012, 17) and in a reference list at the end of the paper (please use APA style, a citation guide is posted on D2L). Be sure to include links to online articles, websites cited, etc. in your works cited list.

HINT: There should be a minimum of three sources properly cited (the original article and at least two supporting sources). Assignments should be between 400 and 650 words. Please include a word count (not including reference list) at the top of your paper.

In addition to these three articles, keeping up with current events by reading one or more credible news sources regularly will immensely help you apply what you are learning in class, cultivate your geographic lens and enhance your understanding of what is happening in our interconnected world.

Paper

For Dr. Keloki Reborn only

As you engage in this learning process, it is important to remember that everyone—regardless of temperament type or related preferences—experiences some challenges with regard to leadership. The key to success is being able to recognize and leverage your own strengths while honoring differences among your colleagues.

At some point in your leadership career, you will encounter an ethical or moral dilemma that requires you to take a stand and defend your position.

For this Assignment, you evaluate an issue and consider how you could act as a moral agent or advocate, facilitating the resolution of the issue for a positive outcome.

To prepare:

  • Consider the examples of leadership demonstrated in this week’s media presentation and the other Learning Resources.
  • To further your self-knowledge, you are required to complete the Kiersey Temperament as indicated in this week’s Learning Resources. Consider your leadership style, including your strengths for leading others and include your results from Kiersey Temperament Sorter to describe potential challenges related to your leadership style.
  • Mentally survey your work environment, or one with which you are familiar, and identify a timely issue/dilemma that requires you to perform the leadership role of moral agent or advocate to improve a situation (e.g., speaking or acting on behalf of a vulnerable patient, the need for appropriate staffing, a colleague being treated unfairly).
  • What ethical, moral, or legal skills, dispositions, and/or strategies would help you resolve this dilemma? Define the differences between ethical, moral, and legal leadership.
  • Finally, consider the values and principles that guide the nursing profession; the organization’s mission, vision, and values; the leadership and management competencies addressed in this course; and your own values and reasons for entering the profession. What motivation do you see for taking a stand on an important issue even when it is difficult to do so?

To complete:

By Day 7

Write a 4 to 5 page paper (page count does not include title and reference page) that addresses the following:

  • Introduce the conceptual frameworks of the ethical constructs of ethics, moral, or legal standards and the purpose of the paper.
  • Consider  an ethical, moral, or legal dilemma that you have encountered in your work environment and describe it.
  • Analyze the moral, ethical, and legal implications utilized in this situation. Describe your role as a moral agent or advocate for this specific issue.
  • Consider your leadership styles identified by your self-assessment and determine if they act as a barrier or facilitation during this dilemma.

As a Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) counselor, I may experience limitation in my scope of counseling as a method of relieving distress. In this case I will resort to the other known grounds for intervention that would also be helpful to the client. I would engage the client concerning these alternative grounds .for my peer who has a limitation in the extent of his professional competence, my reply would be that he ensures that he is always aware of developments in the clinical medical counseling field. He should be engaged in regular practice and have training that is periodic aimed at refreshening. The training should be in terms with the principles of continuing professional development. A great lesson from this discussion that would help in dealing with my limitations is that I should not at any moment make claims of my competence or training that are false. I should at all time check on my professional functioning and in the case of any doubt, look for help where the needs of my clients differ with my daily ability to deliver (clinical mental health counselling, 2016).

Characteristics and behavior of CHMC counselors are as follows: flexible; they recognize the dynamic professional and interpersonal environment and are able to adjust their response to changes. In the case they are directed, they are able to adjust their own response accordingly. They have awareness of their impact on others. They therefore are cautious concerning their words and actions and how they impact other people. They use the feedback from their actions and words to better their advice (clinical mental health counselling, 2016).

CMHC counselors recognize their role amidst a situation and engage the problem solving efforts they have. They accept personal responsibility. They welcome criticism from other people concerning their professionalism. They take up their mistakes and use them for improvement. They are ready to accept feelings of other people and acknowledge them. They pay attention to considerations that are legal and ethical. They therefore handle the clients in a personal and-professional way. They are sensitive to diversity and ensure their clients are safe to the best level. They are confidential with the clients(Gladding, Newsome & Gladding, 2010).

On evaluating my characteristics and those of my peers, the strength that comes out is our sensitivity to diversity. This would be of great help to us in ensuring the best is attained concerning our counseling. My limitation is scope of counseling and in this case I will always check on other available methods with the involvement of client.

Inequalities

Read the following instructions in order to complete this assignment, and review the example of how to complete the math required for this assignment:

  • Read the article about Body Mass Index (BMI) on page 151 of Elementary and Intermediate Algebra. Use the formula given using pounds and inches for finding the BMI at the end of the first paragraph in order to find the four intervals the article mentions:
    • 17 < BMI < 22      might have a longer life span than average
    • 23 < BMI < 25      probably not overweight
    • 25 < BMI < 29.9   probably overweight
    •      BMI > 30       obese

You will use your height to plug into the formula to solve for W, the weight range that will go with each category. You may prefer to solve the formula for the variable W before plugging in values, which is fine.

  • Write a two to three page paper that is formatted in APA style and according to the Math Writing Guide. Format your math work as shown in the Instructor Guidance and be concise in your reasoning.  In the body of your essay, please make sure to include:
    • Your solution to the above problem, making sure to include all mathematical work
    • A discussion on the computed weight ranges and some reasons why they could be misleading
    • An evaluation of the regions outside of the “probably not overweight” range using both set notation and interval notation. Include a simple graph of the regions. (See Instructor Guidance example for some ideas of how to do this.)
    • The incorporation of the following five math vocabulary words into your discussion. Use bold font to emphasize the words in your writing (Do not write definitions for the words; but integrate them into your discussion.):
      • Inequality
      • Equivalent
      • Compound inequality
      • Interval
      • Infinity

Assignment 2: Health Policy Presentation

The purpose of this assignment is for you to identify an issue of concern for your role as an advanced practice nurse and to formulate a potential policy change to address that issue. There are many potential issues which can influence your practice setting or other issue which may negatively affect the patients with whom you work. All of the course reading will help you to identify a topic for this assignment. You can think about the issue as related to your health promotion project. The policy you consider may be in reaction to the health promotion issue or something larger that is still related to that issue. There are hundreds of possible issues, but here is a list of a few to consider:

  • Child and elder care
  • Civil rights
  • Domestic violence
  • Drug abuse/addiction
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Homelessness
  • Native American and migrant workers’ health
  • Long-term care
  • Immigration/illegal aliens
  • Legislative issues affecting advanced practice nursing
  • Barriers to practice
  • Access to care

As you begin to work on the possible policy change: the following ideas and steps should be considered:

  • Definition and description of the issue
  • Exploration of the background of the issue
  • Stakeholders
  • Issue statement or statement of clarity
  • Possible methods of addressing the issue
  • Goals and options for changes
  • Risks and benefits of the changes
  • Evaluation methodology
  • Recommendation or solution

By Monday, September 19, 2016, submit a Power Point presentation to the W3 Assignment 2 Dropbox. This will include the notes pages to explain the content within each slide. Be sure to use APA style and include all of your references.

I NEED A POSITIVE COMMENT BASED IN THIS ARGUMENT.. BETWEEN 150-200 WORDS

Measuring each single piece of item can sometimes be unpractical, and that is why statistical methods of solving problems were developed. A sample of the population being measured can be more practical (Taeger & Kuhnt, 2014). T-test and T-test are some of the known statistical hypothesis testing methods that have been developed.
A T-test is a method of hypothesis testing that uses a student’s T-distribution when the null hypothesis is true. A T-test is used in testing the mean of a population against a standard or comparing two population means when the standard deviation is not known, and the sample is limited (n<30). The method is easy to use, flexible, adaptable to various circumstances and straightforward (Park, 2015).

A Z-test is used to test the mean of a population versus a standard or to compare two populations’ means with samples that are large (n≥30), whether the standard deviation of the population is known or not (Taeger & Kuhnt, 2014).A Z-test determines the probability that a new set of data will be near the point that a certain score was calculated.
A Z-test is usually appropriate over a T-test when the standard deviation of a population is known and when there is a normal distribution. Also, a Z-test is more appropriate when comparing the mean of a sample and a population to know if there is a substantial difference between them. There are fluctuations that can occur in a T-test when using large sample variances and would not be experienced when using the Z-test. For instance, a Z-test would be preferable when comparing the average salaries of male engineers and female engineers (Park, 2015).

I have a linear programming class that requires Lindo solver outputs. Can anyone assist me in this class. The following is a example problem.

Edwards Manufacturing Company purchases two component parts from three different suppliers. The suppliers

have limited capacity, and no one supplier can meet all the company’s needs. In addition, the suppliers charge
different prices for the components. Component price data (in price per unit) are as follows:

    Supplier
Component 1 2 3 Production
1 $12 $13 $14 1,000
2 $10 $11 $10 800
Capacity 600 1000 800

Each supplier has a limited capacity in terms of the total number of components it can supply.  However, as long
as Edwards provides sufficient advance orders, each supplier can devote its capacity to component 1, component
2, or any combination of the two components, if the total number of units ordered is within its capacity. Supplier
capacities and Edwards’ production plan are given above.

If the Edwards production plan for the next period includes 1000 units of component 1 and 800 units component 2. How many units of each component should be ordered from each supplier? What is the total purchased cost for the components?

Create the entire linear programming model below and plug into LINDO and interpret the results.
