Deliver your persuasive speech from your prepared speaking outline. Record and submit the speech and a document containing the following items:

  • Persuasive Speech Outline
  • Add the video link for your persuasive speech to the top of your speaking outline.
  • Also include your answers to the questions on the

checklist for Persuasive Speech

REMINDER: Your speech should be 4-7 minutes. You must have evidence that is valid to support the logic that you use for your speech, for your audience, as well as for your topic and the persuasive position that you are expressing.

Review your preparatory and your speaking outline. As part of your speaking outline for your assignment in this module, make sure that you are answering the following questions.

1. What type of issue are you addressing? (question of fact, value, policy, appeal for passive acceptance, appeal to action, some combination, or other type of issue)

2. Who is your audience? In what context? What do you know about your audience? What approaches would appeal to your audience? What questions or doubts are they likely to have? Will it be important to use visual aids or avoid them for your persuasive speech? (in this module, it is more important to focus on the development of your speech; if a visual aid is appropriate for both your topic and your audience, and if you are comfortable using a visual aid, then you may include it; however, you may have noticed that the most compelling persuasive speeches of our time have not used visual aids)

3. What is your major premise, your minor premise, and your conclusion? (even if you do not present this in your speech, it is important to know your own logic that leads you to your position)

4. How have you addressed the arguments for an opposing point of view regarding the issue you are raising in your speech?

5. What reasoning strategy will you use in your speech? Why? (what form of reasoning, such as example to generality; causal; analogical)

6. What evidence will you use? What makes the evidence credible to the audience? Why are you using this evidence? What are your sources? (include specific evidence, details, examples)

7. How does your evidence relate to your logic?

8. How will you use respected role models to demonstrate the attitude or dispositions that you wish the audience to accept? How will you engage the audience in having to work through the thinking about issues?

9. What emotional or value appeals will you make? Why? (what are the particular values or emotions to which you will appeal)

REMINDER: Build your answers into your introduction, previews, body of central and main ideas, wrap up transitions, and your summary and/or conclusion. Use an organization, language, and delivery of your speech that will be perceived as credible and become memorable for your audience.

Discussion Board 2 Reply 2.2

You will post a 250-word reply to 2 classmate’s threads. The reply requires a minimum of 1 properly formatted citation. Each reply must be completed by you, the individual student. Additionally, each thread and reply must reflect a solid Christian worldview through the use of at least 1 Holy Bible reference. Responding to a classmate’s post requires both the addition of new ideas and analysis. A particular point made by the classmate must be addressed and built upon by your analysis in order to move the conversation forward. Thus, the response post is a rigorous assignment that requires you to build upon initial posts to develop deeper and more thorough discussion of the ideas introduced in the initial posts. As such, reply posts that merely affirm, restate, or unprofessionally quarrel with the previous post(s) and fail to make a valuable, substantive contribution to the discussion will receive appropriate point deductions.

Perspectives of Social Disorganization

Cesare Bonesana, Marchese de Beccaria is known as the father of the the classical school of criminology/father of criminal justice and influenced and inspired what we know today as the American criminal justice system.  One of the most revolutionary ideas within the American Criminal Justice System is the concept of Due Process.

In this paper I will examine elements within the criminal justice system that are based on or are residual processes from Beccaria’s work, more specifically the concept of Due Process.

Social Disorganization

Social disorganization is a theory that was created by Shaw and Mckay that is used to explain the breakdown of social control that causes different levels of crime based on the factors shaping the relationships within and across neighborhood communities (Bernard, Snipes, Gerould, & Vold, 2016, p. 142,144).

Factors of a Socially Disorganized Neighborhood

Kornhauser discussed the basic argument that within neighborhoods where people are poor, live in racially and ethnically diverse neighborhoods, frequently move from place to place will have difficulty assimilating and maintaining social relationships within the neighborhood (Bernard, Snipes, Gerould, & Vold, 2016, p.144). I think these factors plus distrust of the police, and single parent households contribute to the social disorganization of neighborhoods and communities. It seems that residents within those neighborhoods often disassociate themselves from the responsibility of camaraderie with the people who live around them and the overall responsibility of making sure the neighborhood or community achieves their common goals of social control.

Lack of Ability and Willingness for Social Control.

Triplett, Sun, and Gainey examined the ability and willingness of neighborhoods to enact social control, and it’s influence on crime rates (Triplett, R., Sun, I., & Gainey, R., 2005).

When I reviewed the article I observed that the researchers felt four factors influenced the willingness for neighborhoods to enact social control: neighborhood structural characteristics,  trust, environmental characteristics, and ability (Triplett, R., Sun, I., & Gainey, R., 2005).  The researchers looked at social ties, quality of police services, and cooperation with the police as a way to shape ability and willingness to enact social control and their effects on neighborhood crime rates (Triplett, R., Sun, I., & Gainey, R.,2005)

Personal Experience with Houston Neighborhoods

Upon reflecting on my days on patrol, I patrolled in two different districts/neighborhoods within the City of Houston.  The first neighborhood I patrolled was predominantly single dwelling residential homes and the second neighborhood I patrolled was a low income apartment home communities with some single dwelling residential homes.  While there were some distinct differences within the neighborhoods the interesting part was that I observed some similar criminal patterns within both neighborhoods, but it was the way members of the neighborhood handled.  Both areas were predominantly Black and Hispanic, one area was lower middle class with predominantly homeownership, and the other area was lower income with very little homeownership.

I did observe from the area where majority of the residents were homeowners, there was more pride in the overall appearance of the neighborhood. The residents of that neighborhood were more willing to cooperate with and assist the police in order to stop criminal activity. There was an overall sense of accountability and a level of responsibility for the state of the neighborhood. In the neighborhood were there were more apartments and less homeownership the disassociation with the neighborhood was evident. There was a lack of desire to assist police in stopping crime, members of that neighborhood often turned an eye to the criminal activities and would not get involved with assisting police in solving crimes to stop the criminal activity.

Overall I saw how not seeing something and saying something impacted the level of criminal activity within the community. I saw how more people within the neighborhood that had no real responsibility became victims of the crimes that they turned a blind eye to. It is an important function of the members of the neighborhood to police within their neighborhood, speak up when they observe the teenagers vandalizing the buildings, call police when they observe drug dealing on the corner, help to be the change that can transmogrify the neighborhood.

Social Disorganization and the Bible.

When examining the idea of Social Disorganization from a biblical standpoint and relating the concept to scripture I turned to Jeremiah 12:10 which states “Many shepherds have ruined my vineyard, They have trampled down My field; they have made my pleasant field a desolate wilderness. I feel this explains perfectly what transpires within a socially disorganized neighborhood.  I feel this scripture touches on my previous point of how when society provides inadequate shepherding (lack of involvement with protecting the neighborhood), it leads to the neighborhood becoming destroyed.

In  conclusion, social disorganization is a theory used to explain how lack of social control impacts and contributes to criminal activity within neighborhoods. Many factors contribute to creating the disorganization. It is important to note that members of neighborhoods need to participate within their communities in order to combat crime. This can be achieved by developing a connection and a sense of responsibility to protecting the neighborhood.

Case Study 3.3 – Andy’s Recipe

Read Case Study 3.3 – Andy’s Recipe in Leadership Theory and Practice

Answer the three questions at the end of the case study. Provide research from two sources other than our course textbooks that either supports or contradicts your analysis. Your response should be two-three pages in addition to your cover page and your reference page, submitted as a Word document. Use  academic writing standards and APA style guidelines, citing references as appropriate.

Note: Work to incorporate your questions and answers into a fluid essay rather than merely writing the questions and adding the answers which follow. Make this a fluid document that weaves a story of the protagonist’s situation!

Case Study 3.3 – Andy‟s Recipe Andy Garafallo owns an Italian restaurant that sits in the middle of a cornfield near a large midwestern city. On the restaurant’s far wall is an elaborate mural of the canals of Venice. A gondola hangs on the opposite wall, up by the ceiling. Along another wall is a row of real potted lemon trees. “My ancestors are from Sicily,” says Andy. “In fact, I can remember seeing my grandfather take a bite out of a lemon, just like the ones hanging on those trees.” Andy is very confident about his approach to this restaurant, and he should be, because the restaurant is celebrating its 25th anniversary. “I’m darned sure of what I want to do. I’m not trying different fads to get people to come here. People come here because they know they will get great food. They also want to support someone with whom they can connect. This is my approach. Nothing more, nothing less.” While other restaurants have folded, Andy seems to have found a recipe for success. Since opening his restaurant, Andy has had a number of managers. Currently, he has three: Kelly, Danielle, and Patrick. Kelly is a kitchen (food prep) manager who is known as very honest and dependable. She loves her work, and she is efficient, good with ordering, and good with preparation. Andy really likes Kelly but is frustrated with her because she has such difficulty getting along with the salespeople, delivery people, and wait staff. Danielle, who works out front in the restaurant, has been with Andy the longest, 6 years. Danielle likes working at Garafallo’s-she lives and breathes the place. She fully buys into Andy’s approach of putting customers first. In fact, Andy says she has a knack for knowing what customers need before they even ask. Although she is very hospitable, Andy says she is lousy with numbers. She just doesn’t seem to catch on to that side of the business. Patrick, who has been with Andy for 4 years, usually works out front but can work in the kitchen as well. Although Patrick has a strong work ethic and is great with numbers, he is weak on the people side. For some reason, Patrick treats customers as if they are faceless, coming across as very unemotional. In addition, Patrick tends to approach problems with an either-or perspective. This has gotten him into trouble on more than one occasion. Andy wishes that Patrick would learn to lighten up. “He’s a good manager, but he needs to recognize that some things just aren’t that important,” says Andy. Andy’s approach to his managers is that of a teacher and coach. He is always trying to help them improve. He sees part of his responsibility as teaching them every aspect of the restaurant business. Andy’s stated goal is that he wants his managers to be “A” players when they leave his business to take on new jobs elsewhere. Helping people to become the best they can be is Andy’s goal for his restaurant employees. Although Andy works 12 hours a day, he spends little time analyzing the numbers. He does not think about ways to improve his profit margin by cutting corners, raising an item price here, or cutting quality there. Andy says, “It‟s like this: The other night I got a call from someone who said they wanted to come in with a group and wondered if they could bring along a cake. I said „yes‟ with one stipulation… I get a piece! Well the people came in and spent a lot of money. Then they told me that they had actually wanted to go to another restaurant but the other place would not allow them to bring in their own cake.” Andy believes very strongly in his approach. “You get business by being what you should be.” Compared with other restaurants, his restaurant is doing quite well. Although many places are happy to net 5-7% profit, Andy‟s Italian restaurant nets 30% profit, year in and year out. Questions 1. What accounts for Andy Garafallo’s success in the restaurant business? 2. From a skills perspective, how would you describe the three managers: Kelly, Danielle, and Patrick? What does each of them need to do to improve his or her skills? 3. How would you describe Andy’s competencies? Does Andy’s leadership suggest that one does not need all three skills in order to be effective?

Essay on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Essay on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

What connections do you see between fairy tales, myth and epics and C.S.  Lewis’s fantasy The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe?  Write an essay in which you address this question.  You should be able to write at least two pages (double spaced).  You are certainly free to write more.

Process

  • Be sure to consider all the possible angles in answering the basic question.  Here are a few things to consider:
    • Are there aspects of the book that remind you of specific tales or myths or epics?
    • Think about the kinds of characters you meet in this book.  Do any remind you of either specific fairy tale/myth/epic characters – or types of characters that you met in fairy tales/myths/epics?
    • Think about situations.  Do you see any similarities to situations found in fairy tales, myths, epics?
    • Think about what the book “means.”   Can you make any connections to meanings found in fairy tales/myths/epics?
  • In writing your essay, think about how you will organize your discussion.  You need to have a brief introduction, followed by discussion section, followed by the conclusion.
  • Write an outline or plan of some sort.
  • Think about quoting from the book itself to help support your discussion.
  • Be sure to consider meaning in your discussion.  (We can also use the word “theme” as a way of addressing this concern.)  What are the ideas (or themes or meanings) that C.S. Lewis seems to be concerned about in this book?

Evaluative criteria

Does the discussion make substantive connections between fairy tales, myths, and epics?

Does the discussion remain focused and well-organized throughout?

Is the essay carefully proofread and properly formatted

Discussion assignment

In a well-constructed initial response utilizing the knowledge you gained from the initial readings as well as your own experiences, discuss the following questions:

Supporting Your Ideas

There has been a lot of talk about this concept of “fake news.” This has a lot to do with making sure that we, as consumers of information, carefully evaluate sources before determining their worth. It is your task to find a piece of “fake” or misleading news and share it with us. Then, you should find 1–2 credible sources that support why it is fake. You should provide the source(s) for us at the end of this discussion in APA format.

You should then discuss your upcoming speech topic for your Person of Interest Speech. Tell us about the sources you chose to use and how you evaluated their credibility. How do these sources contribute to support your speech? How does the support you chose create audience connection with your topic? You should also cite these sources for us at the end of this discussion in APA format.

What is the overall danger of people not carefully analyzing and evaluating sources?

The following links will help in learning about how to effectively evaluate sources and how to cite sources in APA format.

How to Cite Sources Orally During Your Speech

When you use research for a speech, you must cite the source of your information. This is a requirement of the Person of Interest and Persuasive Speeches. Please view the document below on how to cite sources orally during the delivery of your speech in order to help you understand how to do this effectively.

Art History Assignment (Only accept if you have experience in this subject)

Assume you have been given the ability to travel back in time, and you are about to set off on a trip to the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The purpose of your trip is to visit artists in their studios and view firsthand the creation of some of their paintings and sculpture.

In your time travels, you will collect information on five different styles of nineteenth- and twentieth-century art, as represented by one artist from each style. Before you set out, decide which specific styles you would like to explore.

Select one style from each of the five categories listed below:

  • Late Nineteenth Century: Impressionism or Post Impressionism
  • Early Twentieth Century: Fauvism, Expressionism, or Futurism
  • Cubism: Analytic or Synthetic
  • Post-World War I Art: Dada or Surrealism
  • Post-World War II Art: Abstract Expressionism, Minimalism, or Pop Art

For each of your five selected styles, identify one artist who represents that style whose studio you will explore in your time travels. In your visits to each artist’s studio, plan to identify one work of art that best exemplifies the artist’s style.

When you return from your time travels, prepare a report that includes the following information for each of your five representative works of art:

  1. A photograph of the object
  2. Identifying information:
    1. Name of the artist
    2. Title of the work
    3. Date of the work
    4. Medium/materials used to create the work
  3. Identify the style of the work of art. Then, write a paragraph of 4-6 sentences that:
    1. Describes the visual characteristics that makes the object representative of its style
    2. Places the work within its social and historical context and explains why it is culturally significant

Finally, in a well-developed paragraph of 6-8 sentences, summarize what you have learned from your “time travels,” highlighting key similarities and distinctions between the artists you visited and their representative works of art.

Your report should conclude with an explanation about which style you find most interesting and why.

Offer a citation of your sources for each image and the information provided as appropriate.

PLEASE DO NOT PLAGIARIZE and do not accept assignment if you can’t meet the deadline. It’s due tonight at 11:59pm.

respond to student W/C 150

After reading Susan Glaspell “Trifles “and watching the short film, I learned a couple of things about the 1900’s. First off how naïve the people were in the play, mostly the men, the empowerment of women and how they stick together, and also you can take everything away from a woman but don’t mess with the one thing that allows her to escape. The thesis of a lack of awareness of cultural difference or the assumption by one cultural group that another is inferior often results in painful personal and social encounters applies to the play greatly. The lack of awareness affects the relationships of the characters because since the men were too cocky to actually look right in from of them from help from the women or how sneaky the women in the house defend and cover up the hints. The women and men in this play do view and treat each other different throughout the play. First off let me start with Mr. John Wright. It all started with him and if it wasn’t the way he treated Mrs. Wright, then none of this would have happened. Plus, if he didn’t kill her canary, she probably wouldn’t have snapped and killed him. I think the assumption by males as the inferior group affects the women and in this case it affects Mrs. Wright more because what I got from the play was that she didn’t do anything else but tend to the garden and didn’t have any social life. It also affects Mrs. Peters as well. In the play the Court Attorney says, “Oh, I guess they’re not very dangerous thins the ladies have picked out. No. Mrs. Peters doesn’t need supervising. For that matter, a sheriff’s wife is married to the law. Ever think of it that way, Mrs. Peters?” and she says “Not-just that way” (Glaspell & Greening 2013/Baym, 2013, pg 1936).

I think the assumption of the males thinking that they are inferior affects the behavior of the males significantly. First off they start off by mocking and laughing Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters, oblivious to the fact that they could have actually helped them and found out Mrs. Wrights motives. In the play the Sheriff sarcastically mocks Mrs. Hale, “They wonder if she was going to quilt it or just knot it!” (Glaspell & Greening 2013/Baym, 2013, pg 1932). From then on out, it was the women who actually pieced everything together and found Mrs. Wright’s motive. They find out that she must have been nervous from her quilting, because it was nicely done wat first and then started to get bad. After the mocking incident, Mrs. Hale starts to fix her sewing “mistake”.  And from there, the girl power kicked in. They find out that she had a canary and Mrs. Hale just knows that John killed it. I think that after that moment, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters start to realize that they could understand how Mrs. Wright must have felt.

I could go on and on and talk about this play, but I will end it on this note. This play was short and with powerful meaning. In conclusion, the way that men treated women back then just clouded their judgement. It didn’t seem they cared too much about their opinion or how they felt. I believe that the men were too “hard”, maybe had too much pride back then towards the women. When I looked up the definition of “Trifles”, (many definitions came up, but I think this one applies), it means a thing of little value or importance.  Something of little importance to you may be of more importance for someone else.
