The Federal Budget is a law that spells out how the government will spend its money. This is a huge power that Congress has that is often called, “The Power of the Purse.” If the Congress doesn’t give the government money to do something in the Budget, the government won’t have the resources do what it might want to do.

Part 2 – Federal Budget Activity Reflection Essay

Provide a justification of the budget choices you made within one of the following categories: Defense, Domestic, Social Security, Healthcare (you may NOT choose to focus on the categories labeled: “Budget Path,” “Other,” “Revenue,” or “Tax Expenditures”). In this defense you must address possible counter arguments to the budget decisions you made. If you are spending more under this category how are you going to get new revenue or gain public support for more deficit spending? If you are cutting funds – what are you going to do with these surplus funds?

·  Discuss how this assignment impacted your understanding of the budget process, and the debates between the parties and within Congress have regarding the federal budget? Do you think anything should be done to streamline the current budget process?

·  Discuss how difficult this would have been to do this activity as a group project – what budget issues would have been contentious? How could you have come to a compromise?

Don’t forget to upload your pdf file of the budget as well as the text of your essay in your assignment submission. Both parts of this assignment at once must be submitted for grading.

week 8 discussion law

The responsibility of the directors of a corporation is to provide a return to shareholders on their financial investment in the corporation . . . in other words, shareholders expect to make money on their investment.  Corporations such as Facebook, Google, and Apple are financed through the sale of billions and billions of dollars in shares purchased by investors.  Sometimes, however, the duty to maximize profits runs contrary to legal, but still questionable, business opportunities.

Assume that you’re the director of one of the corporations listed below and have been presented with the business opportunity described in the scenario.  Would you advise the corporation to accept the opportunity?  Make sure to fully explain your answer, considering both the financial return expected and any related ethical concerns.

NEED DISCUSSION REPLY IN 15 HOURS

Discuss American policing in 21st century America. Do you believe that American policing is militarized, or is this a myth? Explain why.

REPLY TO MY CLASSMATE’S RESPONSE TO THE ABOVE QUESTION AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU AGREE? (A MINIMUM OF 125 WORDS or MORE)

CLASSMATE’S POST

No it is not a myth, and I do believe that American policing is militarized. Welcome to the new era of policing, where cops increasingly see themselves as soldiers occupying enemy territory, often with the help of Uncle Sams armory, and where even nonviolent crimes are met with overwhelming force and brutality.

The cancer of militarized policing has long been metastasizing in the body politics. It has been growing ever stronger since the first Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams were born in the 1960’s and response to that decades turbulent mix of riots, disturbances, and senseless violence like Charles Whitman’s infamous clock-tower rampage in Austin, Texas (Harwood, 2014).

When SWAT is not the only indicator that the militarization of American policing is increasing, it is the most recognizable. The proliferation of SWAT teams across the country and their parliamentary tactics have spread a violent form of policing designed for the extraordinary but in these years made ordinary. When the concept of SWAT arose out of he Philadelphia and Los Angeles Police Departments, it was quickly packed up by big police officials nationwide. Initially, however, it was an elite force reserved for uniquely dangerous incidents, such as active shooters, hostage situations or large-scale disturbances (Harwood, 2014).

unit 5 discussion board criminal justice

The Discussion Board (DB) is part of the core of online learning. Classroom discussion in an online environment requires the active participation of students and the instructor to create robust interaction and dialogue. Every student is expected to create an original response to the open-ended DB question as well as engage in dialogue by responding to posts created by others throughout the week. At the end of each unit, DB participation will be assessed based on both level of engagement and the quality of the contribution to the discussion.

At a minimum, each student will be expected to post an original and thoughtful response to the DB question and contribute to the weekly dialogue by responding to at least two other posts from students. The first contribution must be posted before midnight (Central Time) on Friday of each week. The original contribution must reference the text or auxiliary reading at least twice. Two additional responses are required after Friday of each week. The responses must be posted on separate days and must be at least 100 words in length. The responses are due by midnight (CST) Tuesday. Comments that are posted late on the last day of the week, are not quality responses will be graded down. Comments that are mere responses (I agree!) will also be graded down. Students are highly encouraged to engage on the Discussion Board early and often, as that is the primary way the university tracks class attendance and participation.

The purpose of the Discussion Board is to allow students to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content and the DB question. Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB will be accepted after the end of each unit.

Fantasy Presidential Campaign Activity

(Need in 8 hours 100% plagiarism free CANNOT BE COPIED ALL ORIGINAL WORK!!!)

In this activity you are going to apply what you have learned this week about policy as well as apply what you have learned in this course so far to create a basic presidential campaign plan.

Imagine that you have been serving the past few years as the governor of your home state or a U.S. Senator representing your home state. You have done great work and face no challenge in winning the nomination of your party to run in the General Election. In your campaign plan, please address the following:

Part 1: Campaign Details

·  What is your home state?

·  What is your political party?

·  What is your campaign tagline or slogan? Almost all recent presidential campaigns have had a theme song. For example, in 1992, Bill Clinton used the song,” Don’t Stop,” by Fleetwood Mac. In 2012, Republican nominee Mitt Romney used the song, “Born Free,” by Kid Rock. What is your campaign theme song? Why did you select that song.

·  Select someone to be your Vice Presidential Running Mate. You can pick anyone that would eligible, per the Constitution, to serve as President. Why did you select this person to be your vice presidential running mate? How do they help improve your chances on winning the General Election?

Part 2: Your Issues

·  Select and describe two (2) domestic policy issues your campaign is advocating.

·  Why did you select these domestic policy issues to focus on? Use polling data from a reputable polling source such as pew research to support your decision.

·  For each domestic policy issue write a simple one sentence “elevator pitch” that you would use to easily communicate your position to the masses.

·  Select and describe two (2) economic policy issues your campaign is advocating.

·  Why did you select these economic policy issues to focus on? Use polling data from a reputable polling source such as pew research to support your decision.

·  For each economic policy issue write a simple one sentence “elevator pitch” that you would use to easily communicate your position to the masses.

·  Select and describe two (2) foreign policy issues your campaign is advocating.

·  Why did you select these foreign issues to focus on? Use polling data from a reputable polling source such as pew research to support your decision.

·  For each foreign policy issue write a simple one sentence “elevator pitch” that you would use to easily communicate your position to the masses.

Part 3: Your Strategy

Considering the Electoral College vote, which specific states would you campaign in? Keep in mind you have limited resources and that you can’t campaign in every state. Think about what states you would need to win in order to win the general election. Based on historical data, do you actually have a chance to win? Would you be able secure enough electoral votes to win the general election by these states.

To help you think about this part of the assignment you may want to find online and play with an “Interactive Electoral College Map.” Here are some website that you could use to help:

1). The creation of the Department of Homeland Security has affected the ability for administrator’s to reach their goals due to lack of technology and limited resources.

2.) There are a lot of resources available to fight both terrorist and traditional criminals but, less funding is allocated for traditional criminals.

3). The burden to pay for investigating, apprehending, prosecuting, convicting, sentencing and incarcerating terrorist should be placed on the government because the government is responsible for making sure that the citizens in this country are protected against terrorist attacks.

4). Osama Bin Laden should have been taken alive to face America as well as its courts for the criminal acts that he had coerced others into committing against the citizens of America on 9/11.

5). The due process question in light of the creation of the Department of Homeland Security relates to the fifth and fourteenth amendments of the  U. S. Constitution as well as in various state constitutions, which says that no person shall be  “deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law (First Principles).

6). Due process should matter in the war against terrorism because of the fifth and fourteenth amendment of the U. S. Constitution and America should not go against the rules that the government has set in place for that is a violation of the law.

According to Stojkovic, Kalinich, and Klofas (2015), the mission of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is to protect the  American people in their homeland.  Due to less funding being allocated to local criminal justice organization it is more difficult for administrators to meet their goals to prevent and fight crimes within their jurisdictions.  Sheriff’s across the country have been discussing their concerns about having limited funds to train, purchase equipment and hire more needed police officers for their organizations (Police Department, 2018). Although there are a lot of resources available to fight terrorist and traditional criminals the majority of funding is being allocated towards Homeland Security. One would have to understand that the history of policing goes back to working with the basic of using limited resources to work on the further development of community policing. The community is needed to assist in crime prevention.  The need to protect America’s borders and secure the government became a priority as of 911 and the central activity of the DHS requires dozens of directorates and components that involve thousands of personnel to perform its operations (2015). Osama Bin Laden should have been taken alive to face the consequences of terrorism against the American people.  He is entitled to due process because it is a law embedded within the U. S Constitution of America and it should not be violated no matter the crime.  Matthew 12:25 (NKJV) says, “But Jesus knew their thought and said to them: “Every Kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.” Citizens of America should continue to obey its government despite the dilemmas that it would encounter as it moves forward.

ONLY RESPOND TO ONE OF THE QUESTIONS BELOW

“Great Composers and Color Analysis” Please respond to one (1) of the following, using sources under the Explore heading as the basis of your response:

  • Determine whether you prefer Debussy or Mahler after listening to works by each at the Websites below or in this week’s Music Folder and after reading about them. Explain the reasons for your preference. Here we find musical composers inspired by poetry and by philosophy. Identify one (1) element within a work that you find interesting or intriguing by either composer, with regard to the manner in which the work is performed or conducted. Describe the types of things that inspire you to creativity.
  • Describe two (2) color paintings by different artists (selected from the list or sources in the Explore section below) that you believe represent the following quote by Kandinsky on the subject of color in art. Justify your response. From Concerning the Spiritual in Art: “If you let your eye stray over a palette of colors, you experience two things. In the first place you receive a purely physical effect, namely the eye itself is enchanted by the beauty and other qualities of color. […] These are physical sensations, limited in duration. They are superficial, too, and leave no lasting impression behind if the soul remains closed. And so we come to the second result of looking at colors: their psychological effect. They produce a correspondent spiritual vibration, and it is only as a step towards this spiritual vibration that the physical impression is of importance. … Generally speaking, color directly influences the soul.” – Wassily Kandinsky. Discuss these ideas for the use of color and its impact in our own times, such as its effect for advertising and sales, or its impact in the workplace and home.

First student,

Having two teenagers both in high school, I know all too well the issues with social media, the internet and not being able to disconnect with their peers. To avoid issues that come with having a cell phone and constant access to the world in our home cell phones are put up once everyone is home and no one is allowed on them for the remainder of the evening. Neither one of my children have any type of social media as I do not feel they need it. I have allowed them to have Instagram at one point and my daughter summed it up very well the pressure of having to post was constant. So neither one of them have Facebook, Instagram, Snap Chat, Twitter nothing and they both say they don’t miss it nor do they even have a desire for it. I think that not allowing children constant assess to the world via cell phones, computers etc, would absolutely limit the amounts of cyberbullying. Another way to combat cyberbullying is parent educating their children on what you post on the internet is for the world to see and never goes away. The video and pictures that children post are at times excessively much, and open themselves up for becoming victims of cyberbullying like the example in the video clip. My number one solution for combating cyberbullying is no eliminate or limit the child’s ability to be on social media and the internet.  As for the case involving “Michelle Carter” and “Carter Roy III,” I most definitely believe Ms. Carter contributed the Mr. Roy’s death she did nothing to stop it in fact she sent multiple messages encouraging him to harm himself.  As for the schools responsibility for cyberbullying I do not believe they are responsible unless it is taking place on school grounds. A simple solution to this issue is parents need to be monitoring their child’s cell phone and computer content.

Second student to respond to,

Cyberbullying has become a major issue in school. Kids are bullying other students to where students want to harm themselves at home. I do believe it is the school responsibility to ensure the students safety even off campus. Most bullying starts at school. If the teachers and any school staff notice the behavior I believe they should handle it to put a stop to it. Teachers can sit and talk with the student or mention the bullying to the student’s parent, make them aware of the situation. Teachers should even contact the bully’s parents so they are also aware what their child is doing. Follow up on the student to make sure they are okay. Some children are scare to reach out or wont reach out. They rather have someone come to them for help.

Cyberbullying remind me of a show I watch on Netflix called “13 Reasons Why” an teen age girl in high school commits suicide in her home because of they way people have treated her. She was too scared to reach out and things were too much for her to bare. Before she committed suicide she made 13 tapes of the people that did wrong in her eyes. She made the tape so they could know who and what play apart of her death.

Bullying is a very serious matter today. Kids don’t know any better or don’t know what it can lead to. In Cater’s case, I believe she didn’t mean to say things she said to her ex boyfriends death. I think she wanted to say things to make him mad and didn’t expect him to react on it. It was wrong of her to say those things to him. She should have help him seek help. She could have called the law enforcement or his family/ friends warn them that he’s having suicide thoughts and he may harm his self. I also believe she provoked him out of anger, but again it was wrong of her doing so.

when someone is experiencing bullying or suicide thoughts no matter what age its best to take it serious. its not good to ignore or provoke it. You don’t know exactly what’s going on in their end. Sometimes people just need a shoulder to lean on or someone to tell them that everything is going to be okay.

Criminal Investigation Jeremy

The wording alone, interrogation or interview, can be seen in different lights or how you do things.  Interrogation is more like an Officer trying use techniques that seem more hostile to force a suspect to incriminate themselves or trying to get them to confess to a crime (Areh, 2016).  Now in Law Enforcement every Officer would love to have a criminal just confess to what they did, but that is not always the case.  Sometimes using this way can lead to false confessions to get it over with, than getting to the truth (Areh, 2016).  The other approach is the interview technique.  The interview technique is about gathering information from the suspect on about what happened (Areh, 2016).  This is a safer approach and leads to less false confessions (Areh, 2016).  A lot of Law Enforcement agencies have changed their wording in their policies and the name of the room to interview room instead of interrogation room, because it sounds better.

I say all of that to say this, Law Enforcement has to set up their mindset before you start talking/interviewing to people or suspects.  Just like in this week’s required reading a Law Enforcement Officer might not do certain thing throughout their career, but one thing they will always do is talk to people (Strandberg, 2015).  Sometimes in Law Enforcement emotions and tension run high when working cases like mass shootings, child being murder, or rapes.  Law Enforcement Officers can’t go into an interview letting their emotions control them, because that can make that interview turn into an interrogation and then they might get a false confession instead of getting at the truth.  Emotions can help drive Law Enforcement Officer to do their best, but it can also blind them from to any other possible solutions if they let their emotions take completely over
