Do you think teams are becoming more common in the workplace? Why, or why not? Explain and discuss your responses.

PLEASE REPLY TO MY CLASSMATE RESPONSE TO THE ABOVE QUESTIONS AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU AGREE? (A MINIMUM OF 125 WORDS or MORE)

In my workplace we rely heavily on being a team. Where someone lacks or just need help someone steps up to help. I think it is now becoming common in most workplaces. Teams have been discovered to be of great help to most organizations making them common (Jackson et al., 2015). Teams have many, and this is the reason why groups are becoming common. The importance of teams in the workplace are;

I. It improves productivity. When there is teamwork in the workplace sharing of ideas is present, and this is effective in productivity in the workplace.  Productivity is what every organization need and any organization that needs it can do anything to achieve it; that is why today many managers are encouraging teams to obtain productivity.  Teams are of great in productivity because it creates flexibility which makes employees comfortable in an organization.

II. It builds trust. Teams are made to share both ability and skills; thus when working together, it is easy to understand each other and trust each other. Trust is built by sharing; therefore teams play a significant role in creating trust. When people are working together, they are given a chance of sharing ideas unlike when one is working along, sharing skills helps a team to come up with new ideas from team member which helps in solving issues.

III. Teams bring change (Jackson et al., 2015). In the workplace where there is teamwork it is easy for that team to have a change for better. Since a team brings different ideas, it is for an organization to be innovated due to the change a group what or has made. Today many organizations can fight their competitors due to teamwork. With a good strategy, a team can acquire information from competitors which will help the organization.  Lastly, a good team will help to have feedbacks like from clients which will assist the organization in making changes for better productivity.

ITNA357 Network Security Management discussion 2

The Discussion Board (DB) is part of the core of online learning. Classroom discussion in an online environment requires the active participation of students and the instructor to create robust interaction and dialogue. Every student is expected to create an original response to the open-ended DB question as well as engage in dialogue by responding to posts created by others throughout the week. At the end of each unit, DB participation will be assessed based on both level of engagement and the quality of the contribution to the discussion.

At a minimum, each student will be expected to post an original and thoughtful response to the DB question and contribute to the weekly dialogue by responding to at least two other posts from students. The first contribution must be posted before midnight (Central Time) on Wednesday of each week. Two additional responses are required after Wednesday of each week. Students are highly encouraged to engage on the Discussion Board early and often, as that is the primary way the university tracks class attendance and participation.

The purpose of the Discussion Board is to allow students to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content and the DB question. Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB will be accepted after the end of each unit.

As the new network administrator, one of your first responsibilities is to draft a network security policy plan that employees must sign and follow when using the company’s network.

Research and discuss the items that you would place in such a plan, and justify your reasoning for the items that you have decided to include.

Research and discuss 3 items that you believe are the most important when drafting a security policy plan.

Explain why you believe these are important, and include examples of security breaches that can occur if these items are not outlined and followed.

Data Mining and Predictive Analysis

Assignment 4: Data Mining The development of complex algorithms that can mine mounds of data that have been collected from people and digital devices have led to the adoption of data mining by most businesses as a means of understanding their customers better than before. Data mining takes place in retailing and sales, banking, education, manufacturing and production, health care, insurance, broadcasting, marketing, customer services, and a number of other areas. The analytical information gathered by data-mining applications has given some businesses a competitive advantage, an ability to make informed decisions, and better ways to predict the behavior of customers. Write a four to five (4-5) page paper in which you:

  1. Determine the benefits of data mining to the businesses when employing:
    1. Predictive analytics to understand the behavior of customers
    2. Associations discovery in products sold to customers
    3. Web mining to discover business intelligence from Web customers
    4. Clustering to find related customer information
  2. Assess the reliability of the data mining algorithms. Decide if they can be trusted and predict the errors they are likely to produce.
  3. Analyze privacy concerns raised by the collection of personal data for mining purposes.
    1. Choose and describe three (3) concerns raised by consumers.
    2. Decide if each of these concerns is valid and explain your decision for each.
    3. Describe how each concern is being allayed.
  4. Provide at least three (3) examples where businesses have used predictive analysis to gain a competitive advantage and evaluate the effectiveness of each businessÂ’s strategy.
  5. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

I chose to evaluate the compensation plan afforded to United Airlines employees. I would like to review this plan to gain an understanding for my brother who is now a pilot in the United States Army. After retiring in the military, he plans to fly commercial, so I thought it was interesting to evaluate the compensation being offered. Also, my aunt is currently a pilot for United Airlines.

https://futurefuel.io/employee-benefits/united-airlines-careers/

The United Airlines’ employee benefits include: health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, mental health care, 401(k) plan, retirement plan, performance bonus, maternity and paternity leave, social clubs, business resource groups, vacation and paid time off, sick days, employee discounts, commuter checks and assistance, job training, professional development. Compared to other airlines, United does not have the best employee benefits however, employees can benefit in growing with the company, receive a pension plan that other airlines do not offer their employees, travel perks and significant discounts, and better wages. Applicants must assess what a company offers that is of importance to them. For instance, my brother may view a second retirement pension plan as a benefit especially because he has a family. Also, they love to travel and United can provide that as well. As a recipient to my aunt’s guess passes, this perk has allowed us to travel from Guam to California and Alaska without costing a fortune. Additionally, there are PTOs and very important. United may suit his needs in the future when he decides to work a civilian job.

Although United has these compensation benefits, they company can work more on improving their benefit packages as the article has stated that there hasn’t been much done for years. Also, as millennials are about to takeover the workforce, student loan debt has been an issue and the company should look into incentives for students who plan to pursue careers with United. This can help those in these situations perform quality work.

question

What can be done to motivate managers to ensure transfer of training?

Student response

In order to ensure organizational success, managers have a duty/obligation to make sure transfer of training occurs. There are a number of things that can be done to help motivate managers to ensure that this is accomplished. According to Noe, R. E. (2017) “To maximize transfer of training, trainers need to achieve the highest level of support possible. Managers can also facilitate transfer through reinforcement (use of action plans). An action plan is a written document that includes the steps that the trainee and manager will take to ensure that training transfers to the job. The action plan includes (1) a goal identifying what training content will be used and how it will be used (project, problem); (2) strategies for reaching the goal (including what the trainee will do differently, resources needed, and the type of support from managers and peers); (3) strategies for receiving feedback; and (4) expected results. (Page 229). Nothing is worse than being out of the know, and heavy involvement from managers in a training program/plan will only benefit all parties involved in the success of the trainee and organization. Further more great managers success is also based on the development of their subordinates, and if that is not motivating enough to ensure transfer of training then they may be in the wrong job. Noe, R. E., also mentioned that “Typically, 10 percent to 30 percent of bonus pay is based on development”. (Page 232).

In my role in supporting the Sales Desk at Transamerica, a huge part of the income in these roles comes from commission so the transfer of training with these individuals is vital to the overall success of the internal wholesaler (new hire) as well as the Assistant Vice Presidents (direct supervisors). Our training team is dedicated to not only ensure trainees learn the skills, products and processes but to also be an asset to the team their are assigned to. A needs assessment is done for every individual to ensure efficiency and maximized training tailored to that new hire. We have learned that all new hires have a different skill level and some may need more training than others. An action plan is developed as well as shared to their AVP. Through this training program the dedication of the trainee as well as their direct supervisor is critical, as it consists of a mixture of classroom and shadowing. Heavy involvement throughout is necessary in order to ensure the training plan is executed correctly. The expected result is not only motivating for the manager but also for the organizations strategic goals. The results in the effectiveness of transfer training in a sales environment will be apparent rather quickly as they directly impact their income as well as their supervisors commission plan. An article from Friedman, S., & Ronen, S. (2015) stated “The field experiment tested the hypothesis that sales supervisors who form implementation intentions at the end of an organizational training program apply the acquired selling skills to a greater degree than sales supervisors who only repeat their own words.”

                                                      CLASSMATE’S POST

In my state of Mississippi, Homeland Security has spent quite a bit of money toward the Task Force groups throughout the state. They have beefed up the specialized divisions like swift water and confined space. Swift-water has been one of the areas that have been neglected for several years. They now have spent money on getting more small boats for rescue operations in areas that needed it the most. There have been also grants for getting people certified in those areas as well. Most of the classes are free to attend but your department would still have to give you the time off to attend. So money is still being spent by the department for you to attend for your food and travel.

I was looking to see what the State itself has spent or what was proposed, but I was not able to find out exactly a dollar amount would have been. The only thing that was showing was the total projected amount as a whole at the federal levels.  Also, Homeland Security has spent several thousands of dollars on a drone program to help assist with assessments in different areas throughout the state. This is one resource that needed to be done. Most of everyone who is flying a drone was required to get their FAA Part 107 license. Homeland Security has spent money with getting better equipment to do some of the damage assessments with the help from the State EMA office. They have been going around to the different counties getting people certified and trained on getting a better idea of what’s required to collect reports from flooding or from major incidents that would happen within the state.

Most people probably do not realize what is all involved from DHS and how some of the funding is set. They may hear about a certain task force group getting deployed to help assist with a hurricane or a tornado in different states. The last couple of times, it has been about flooding from the rains and the snow melting from up north with is moving south.

Explain why the communications skills and techniques used within a business unit (department) are not always effective in communicating across business units or up and down the corporate ladder.

Explain why conflict resolution communication skills are not always present in everyday workplace situations and how skilled communications professional would add value to that workplace.

REPLY TO MY CLASSMATE RESPONSE TO THE ABOVE QUESTIONS AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU AGREE? (A MINIMUM OF 125 WORDS or MORE)

Communication can be tricky in any organization. This is because talking peer to peer in a corporate office, of the organization, is going to be different than talking peer to peer in a low-level office. Also, cultural diversity can play a role in how effective communication is. It is also critical that multiple forms of communication are used. Businesses that have many different departments cannot just rely on face to face communication. There needs to be other forms of communication practiced often. Forms such as: email, phone, radio, etc. In order to create an effective chain of communication that each department feeds from, there must be skilled communication professionals put into each unit or place of business. This will allow for corporate to have “eyes on the target” per say. In other words, they can have actual people throughout each department that can relay messages back and forth. International appears to do a great job at this. Their communications directors help with the relay of messages but also use corporate’s suggestions and tailor them to fit their specific department. Conflict resolution skills are not always present because of peoples fear of admitting that they are wrong. Not only that, but also the effort that it takes to do so. I have experienced many small conflicts that festered out of control, simply because of a person’s inability to say, “I am sorry” and take the time to fix it. In a sense people might think that they will appear weak if they admit they are wrong. A lot of times it might seem easier to just avoid the problem until it hopefully goes away. The unfortunate truth behind that is even if it does go away, there is usually some damage to a relationship left behind.

NEED IN 3 HOURS REPLY TO CLASSMATE’S POST

Review the following scenario, and then discuss it in terms of both functional and dysfunctional conflict within an organization.

Last year, an organization established a company policy requiring that all employees smile and make eye contact with customers. Since then, employee grievances have continued to escalate. In the last month alone, 10 employees from three different stores have filed grievances. Most of them list customer harassment as a major issue: The customers assume that the employee is flirting with them because the customers are misreading the social cues. Additionally, one employee who had recently suffered the loss of her spouse complained about being reprimanded by a supervisor because she was not smiling at customers “with sufficient enthusiasm.”

The organization wants to maintain an image as a friendly place to shop that cares about its customers, but the organization also wants to be a place where employees can work in a safe environment.

Explain which communication technique (or techniques) you think would be most helpful in creating a solution, and explain why you believe the technique (or techniques) will help.

PLEASE EXPLAIN WHETHER YOU AGREE WITH MY CLASSMATE RESPONSE TO THE ABOVE QUESTION AND WHY? (A MININUM OF 125 WORDS)

 CLASSMATE’S POST

Communication is an important aspect for the success of an organization. Effective communication within an organization ensures that there is smooth implementation of its policies. In the situation above the organization had a good intention of serving its customers with a smile. In order to implement this, they made sure that all employees need to smile and make eye contact while interacting with their customers. However, the organization has also faced increased number of employee grievances complaints. The organization needs to look into the matter to see where the problem lies. Serving customers with a smile and making eye contacts are basic ways to ensure cordial greetings. However, in light of these complaints, the organization should observe the employee interaction with the customers. Non-verbal communication like body language is a huge aspect of communicating. Thus, one must ensure that there body language is proper. The organization should also focus on having interaction sessions with the employees at the store and their supervisors about their feedback on this rule. This will help to identify the issues and make necessary corrections while implementing it. The organization can also have special training program on non-verbal communication, body language. It is important that the employees greet their customers cordially but at the same time appear professionals.

csu week 4 apa format 1-2 paragraphs references

Compensation is a controversial workplace topic. Throughout the years, specifically the past decade, average employee wages have not greatly risen. However, managerial and executive pay has steadily increased.

Despite current economic stability and low unemployment rates, U.S. businesses are constrained from raising employee salary and benefits due to low-wage foreign competition.  This week’s readings showcase a case study on pay compression at Envelop City and on how McDonalds uses praise (intrinsic factor) and individual incentive pay (extrinsic factor) to ensure satisfied and happy employees.

Discuss how an organization can motivate its employees to maintain/increase their productivity and performance without significantly increasing employees’ compensation.  Additionally, as a compensation consultant, how would you develop market value for positions within your organization? Propose a compensation plan to ensure that rewards (i.e., wages, benefits, and other compensation) match job duties, tasks, and responsibilities.

Answer the above using the question and answer (Q&A) format.  The Q&A format should include the original question along with your response. Within your post, support your responses with information from at least one peer-reviewed/scholarly source (not older than 3-5 years) from CSU Global online library (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. or the Internet, and provide the full citation at the end of your post. question

What examples of orientation have you had as a new hire that have been particularly effective or ineffective? Explain.

Student response

When an employee starts a new job one of the first and most important things that they must do is attend employee orientation so that they understand the rules and regulations regarding the company that they are working for. According to Heneman, organizations see the orientation program as a crucial part of their culture formation process because an effective orientation program will foster an understanding of the organization’s culture and values. It will help the new employee understand his or her role and how he or she fits into the entire organization. Additionally, it can also be the organization’s first opportunity to welcome new hires and to emphasize the opportunities it can provide (Heneman, 2019). Within the Navy or orientation process starts at boot camp, we learn how the Navy is set up, how the rank structure works, and the basics of becoming a sailor. Once we arrive at our first command, which is usually a ship for most, every sailor must go through an indoctrination process, which teaches them the basics of shipboard firefighting and how to defend the ship against attacks.  Along with this process, each new sailor is assigned a mentor to show them around the boat and teach them the ways of becoming a sailor on a ship and in the Navy. It is a very effective process because the Navy is not like any other job; we have our way of speaking, interacting with each other and operating. Too many new sailors this idea is foreign and intimidating, and many struggle with getting acclimated to Navy Life. Having a good mentor and orientation process is crucial to a new employees success in the navy and a company that they are going to work for.
