Healthcare Spending and Services

Complete this discussion in a 150 – 300 response.

Healthcare data at a community, county, or region level and state level determine healthcare spending and services allocated for individuals. Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research about these data as it will help you build a reality of costs of care for the healthcare system and beyond.

Research your own geographic region (town, city, county, or state) for data that is commonly used in health services systems. This includes census data, vital statistics data (birth, deaths, marriages, and divorces), surveillance data, administrative data, and survey research data. Keep in mind that most of this data will come from federal, state, or local offices that are federally mandated, but don’t stop there. You may find data in other surprising places.

Based on your readings and research, answer the following:

  1. Which office contains the health-related data identified above?
  2. How do people go about enrolling for Medicare and Medicaid in your community? Describe the eligibility requirements and costs, if any, for each of these types of subsidized care.
    • Coverage for acute care, including hospitalization
    • Coverage for preventive care
    • Outpatient services
    • Specialty services, such as mental health, rehabilitation, etc.

To support your work, use your course and textbook readings and also use the South University Online Library. As in all assignments, cite your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format.

Your initial posting should be addressed at 150-300 words. Submit your document to this Discussion Area by the due date assigned. Be sure to cite your sources using APA format.

You’re invited to a party

Choose three composers from the Romantic Era. Pretend they all had an opportunity to meet, perhaps at a party. What do you think they might say to one another about music and culture? Construct the conversation as you imagine it. Initial posts are to be a minimum of 250 words.

In addition to responding to the Forum question, students are also required to respond to two classmates by asking “the composers” additional questions. Responses to others are to be a minimum of 100 words.

Goal: The goal of this forum is to explore the lives and music of Romantic era composers.

This forum addresses course objective #1, #2 and #3.

Instructions

Initial posts must be 250+ words, using correct grammar and spellcheck, posted by Thursday 11:55 p.m. ET each week. Part of the requirement for a substantive post is to bring something new to the conversation. Assignment help media and sexism

Many marketing efforts perpetuate the gender stereotypes that are steeped in our culture. Two examples at attempts to maintain these stereotypes through advertising are the Bic Critsal For Her and the Easy Bake Oven. These two conceivably innocuous items triggered a flood of articles, petitions, and videos, denouncing their perceived underlying messages.

The first controversy that erupted surrounded the Bic Cristal For Her pen. This pen was created and packaged specifically for women to use. Several groups lashed out at Bic, calling their attempt to target women with “lady pens” sexist and demeaning. Its detractors felt the campaign was degrading and fed into stereotypes by highlighting the thin design and the use of pastel colors. The negative press was overwhelming, although the pens have remained on the market.

Consumers also targeted those responsible for marketing the Easy Bake Oven by sending a petition asking its parent company Hasbro to make the ovens in colors other than pink and purple. Thousands of individuals signed the petition asking for alternative oven colors after a teenage girl from New Jersey was angered that her younger brother would have no other option but to use an oven in the colors that are considered stereotypically female. It was argued that the colors supported the stereotypical view that only young girls would want to bake. The signers of the petition felt that young boys who might want to use the toy would be more likely to practice their baking skills if the color of the oven was gender neutral.

Consider these two stories and think about your own reactions to the responses to the advertising and merchandising of these items.

To prepare: View the assigned resources and reflect on your experience with gender.

Turn in by Sunday 9/15/19

Discussion 1:
Systems Theory: Systems, Settings, and Sources of Influence

One of the most well-known systems theories in psychology is Bronfenbrenner’s ecological model. The model consists of several interrelated systems, beginning with the individual at the center then expanding to include the individual’s immediate family and friends (microsystem); extended family, school, and work (exosystem); and culture and society as a whole (macrosystem). This model can be used as a framework to understand human development and behavior and to design effective interventions to address many different psychological and societal issues.

Consider how this model might be applied to better understand the development and behaviors of a transgender teenager. Suppose the teenager, who now calls herself Shelly, has recently informed her parents and close friends that she would like to officially transition to being a girl. Initially she is overjoyed that her parents and close friends are supportive (microsystem). Then, after attending school for a week and going to a family reunion dressed as a girl, Shelly is met with harsh criticisms from some of her peers and teachers at school as well as her grandparents (exosystem). In fact, she overhears her parents and grandparents arguing about her transition and is immediately overcome by guilt and despair. Finally, while she is encouraged by positive media regarding a celebrity who recently transitioned, she is saddened to learn that the larger public opinion and recent government policies are discriminatory to transgendered persons (macrosystem). Therefore, due to her desire to become accepted at school, by her grandparents, and by society at large, she decides to stop her transition even though it causes her great distress to do so.

This example illustrates the complex and competing pressures among the systems of Bronfenbrenner’s model, which can affect the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors of the individual at the center of the model. In this discussion, you will consider how the model applies to the competing pressures in your own life.

To Prepare

  • Read the article, General systems theory: Its past and potential. Pay particular attention to how von Bertalanffy’s general system theory originated and evolved and how the author of the article characterizes the terms, “systems,” “structures,” and “relations.”
  • Review Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Model, located in this week’s learning resources. Focus on the meaning and interrelationships among the microsystem, exosystem, and macrosystem from a child’s perspective. Consider how these systems would be generalized to apply to an adult.
  • Using Bronfenbrenner’s model, identify two out of three systems (microsystem, exosystem, macrosystem) and their settings (school, work, family gatherings, neighborhood, country, etc.). Think about how demands and expectations in one setting might impact your ability to meet demands and expectations in another setting.

By Day 3

Post a response to the following:

Identify the two systems you chose and describe settings within each system that influence your life and behavior/activity. Then explain how demands and expectations in one setting could impact the ability to meet demands and expectations in another setting. Be specific.

Note: Support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources and any additional sources you identify using both in-text citations and references. It is strongly recommended that you include proper APA format and citations.

Rewrite paper 500 words in 6 hours

was it important for the ancient Israelites to remember their story?

There are many chapters and passages in the bible that are dedicated to the discussion of the history of Israelites. There are long creation stories in genesis, a review by Moses on the exodus of Israelites Deuteronomy that gives a steady discussion of all the major historical event. Deuteronomy occurs in the plains of Moab that is in the east bank of Jordan river. I believe that for the ancient Israelites, the purpose of Deuteronomy was punishment. I say this because they rebelled against God and didn’t trust in him, so he let them stay on Mt. Sinai for one year, and they traveled through the wilderness for thirty-eight years. “Indeed, the Lord’s own hand was against them, to root them out from the camp, until all had perished.” (Deuteronomy 1:15). God was doing this so that they can perish because they doubted the Lord, and he didn’t want them to go to the promised land. Deuteronomy 1:34 says “When the Lord heard your words, he was wrathful and swore: 35 “Not one of these—not one of this evil generation—shall see the good land that I swore to give to your ancestors, 36 except Caleb, son of Jephunneh. He shall see it, and to him and his descendants, I will give the land on which he set foot, because of his complete fidelity to the Lord.” During the accent times; following god’s words and laws was a true test of faith for many people those who did not abide by them were punished. Deuteronomy also talks about how God wanted his people to trust in him and keep all his commands.

How does the biblical story connect to your own life?

I believe my life is centered around the bible, I find myself consistently thinking about how blessed and thankful to God I am. Like many others around the world, whether if we are born rich or poor, we are still thankful. For example, having to work two jobs in order to pay for my classes that will go towards my degree. As a result, I am thankful to god because he has installed in me the ability to work hard toward my dreams. At the same time, receiving my high school diploma and getting hired as a department store manager. Did not happen due to my hard work but god work so I always thank god for my blessings little or small. I think that even though these blessings may seem to come from our own hard work. However, in fact it comes from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. That why I believe that it is right to gives thanks to god through living our lives in justly and listen to what he tells us to do. Like abiding by the ten commandments god is giving us a set of laws to live by. Although, it may be a little hard to apply every part of the Ten Commandments to my everyday life at once. It’s important to me to continue to work every day to apply each of the Ten Commandments to my everyday life. In Deuteronomy 16:1-7 is where God provides and asks for a small sacrifice in return for his grace.

Assignment 2: Journal Entry – Social Workers and the LGBTQ Population and Advocacy, Internationally

The LGBTQ community continues to experience incidences of prejudice and bias. Not only are these prejudices exemplified in interpersonal interactions through slurs and violent acts but also in the policies maintained in social work agencies and institutions. On June 26, 2015, the United States Supreme Court extended marriage rights to same-sex partners. Since this ruling, the federal government has extended all federal and military/veteran benefits to married same-sex couples. Despite this progress, states continue to debate laws and policies that would legalize forms of discrimination toward LGBTQ individuals. Advocacy organizations, such as the Human Rights Campaign, provide policy maps showing the different rights provided in different states (see https://www.hrc.org/state-maps). Social workers are expected to fight to eliminate these inequalities throughout communities, programs, and institutions.

Around the world, members of the LGBTQ community continue to struggle for their rights. In some countries, they have made some progress. In 2016, 20 countries legally recognized marriage for same-sex couples (Human Rights Campaign, 2016). However, in other countries, the LGBTQ community faces much greater obstacles, and the consequences of fighting for basic rights are grave for both LGBTQ individuals and allies. Being gay is a crime punishable by death in 10 countries and is illegal in a total of 73 countries (Human Rights Campaign, 2016). Because of the violence and social exclusion experienced globally, LGBTQ individuals may seek refugee status because of their sexual orientation or gender identity/expression (UN High Commissioner for Refugees [UNHCR], 2016).

To prepare: Consider the following statement:

NASW encourages the adoption of laws that recognize inheritance, insurance, same-sex marriage, child custody, property, and other rights in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender relationships. The Association firmly believes that all federal protections and responsibilities available to legally married people in the United States should be available to people who enter same sex unions (including domestic partnerships, civil unions, and same sex marriages).

By Day 7 of Week 7

Submit a 2-3 page reaction to this statement of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). Describe what you think is the role of social workers in equal rights and access to LGBTQ populations. Next provide a detailed explanation of your reaction to the United Nations Address on Global LGBT Rights. Then, explain why, in the context of practicing social work in North America, it is important for us to acknowledge and address sexual orientation and gender diversity of marginalized populations across the world. Explain the role of social workers on an international level in relation to the rights of the LGBTQ community. Identify specific skills and actions you would employ as an advocate.

Question:1

In this discussion, I am going to talk about the data breach on the Fetal Diagnostic Institute of the Pacific in Honolulu, HI. I have posted the link under References [1].

It was cyberattack that potentially breached close to 41,000 patients. Their PII was compromised. The hackers breached one of the institute servers, which included some patient records. The officials acted to contain the incident and contacted a cybersecurity firm. They were able to successfully remove the virus, clean the system and immediately contained the attack but they expected up to 41,000 patient information could have been compromised. The data of both past and current patients were impacted by the breach but the FDIP claimed they do not store the credit card details on their servers.

How could this have been avoided or control strategies to mitigate these:

The best ways to avoid any cyber-attack is by improving authentication and encryption.

Two Factor Authentication is one place to start with. 2FA expects whoever trying to access their data to confirm their identity in two different ways and this will be a problem for those who try to hack or use brute force kinds of attacks to hack into the system. There is always the extra safety that if a hacker could get one component right, he is probably going to get the next one wrong and so there will still be some level of trust. With this, you have a second layer of authentication and rather than entering just a username and password, you should validate yourself in 2 different ways. While this is only used in personal commodities like to access an electronic device or maybe to login to your bank account online, it might be too complicated for a health account but if we need to have security, its always best to use the safest way. This makes it harder for the attackers to access the online accounts because knowing the victim’s password alone is not enough to pass the authentication check. In single-factor authentication, user ID and password are not trustworthy. The major problem with password-based authentication is that not many people create and use diligent passwords and fail to change often even after reminders. Passwords are also prey to external threats, to brute force attacks, or even rainbow table attacks. Given time and resources, the password-based system can be easily hacked, and it’s being done easily in the modern-day world. All these can be avoided using 2FA. Different devices and services are used for implementing 2FA from tokens and RFID cards to smartphone apps. 2FA products can be divided into two categories: tokens which are provided to users to use to get into their account, and software that recognizes and authenticates users. This 2FA can also make use of an extra token/biometrics/voice recognition and any one of this can be used on top of the usual password to make it harder for it to be compromised. By having this 2FA, it wouldn’t have been easy for the attacker to get into the server and gain access to all this information.

Question:2

The selected article that outlines a recent security breach involves Credential Stuffing Attack Again that was experienced by Dunkin. The article has been retrieved from https://www.pymnts.com/news/security-and-risk/2019/dunkin-credential-stuffing-attack/.  By description, credential stuffing takes place when hackers employ combinations of usernames and passwords which are leaked from the other Websites and use them to get into other accounts at another website.  One control that would militate against credential stuffing is to use two-factor authentication (2FA). 2FA offers an additional layer of security and protection for the user accounts. With two-factor authentication (2FA), both username and password are needed for authentication and thus, entrenching the security model making it more complicated for the attacker to bypass or hack (Zhang et al., 2018). Since 2FA requires the second type of identification such as verification through SMS, which the hacker may not have, it reduces the chances that the hacker impersonates a user and gain access to the computers and reduces unauthorized access (Zhang et al., 2018).

Case Study 1

Read the attached article:

GUIDELINES FOR WRITING A CASE STUDY

A case study analysis requires you to investigate a problem, examine the alternative solutions, and propose the most effective solution using supporting evidence.  Your submission should be no more than 2 pages and needs to adhere to APA formatting for spacing and citations.  Include a title page, your case study (1-2 pages), and reference page.  For guidance on APA formatting check out this resource:  https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/section/2/10/

Preparing the Case

Before you begin writing, follow these guidelines to help you prepare and understand the case study:

  1. Read and examine the case thoroughly
    • Take notes, highlight relevant facts, underline key problems.
  2. Focus your analysis
    • Identify two to three key problems
    • Why do they exist?
    • How do they impact the information security field?
    • Who is responsible for them?
  3. Uncover possible solutions
    • Review course readings, discussions, outside research, and your experience.
  4. Select the best solution
    • Consider strong supporting evidence, pros, and cons: is this solution realistic?

Drafting the Case

Once you have gathered the necessary information, a draft of your analysis should include these sections:

  1. Introduction
    • Identify the key problems and issues in the case study.
    • Formulate and include a thesis statement, summarizing the outcome of your analysis in 1–2 sentences.
  2. Background
    • Set the scene: background information, relevant facts, and the most important issues.
  3. Alternatives
    • Outline possible alternatives (not necessarily all of them)
    • Why are alternatives not possible at this time (if not possible)?
  4. Proposed Solution
    • Provide one specific and realistic solution
    • Explain why this solution was chosen
    • Support this solution with solid evidence
  5. Recommendations
    • Determine and discuss specific strategies for accomplishing the proposed solution.
    • If applicable, recommend further action to resolve some of the issues
    • What should be done and who should do it?

Finalizing the Case

After you have composed the first draft of your case study analysis, read through it to check for any gaps or inconsistencies in content or structure: Is your thesis statement clear and direct? Have you provided solid evidence? Is any component from the analysis missing?

When you make the necessary revisions, proofread and edit your analysis before submitting the final draft.

Discussion: Ethical Considerations

Ethical considerations can become complex, particularly within the many careers in which psychology graduates find themselves. This week, you received just an introduction to the area of professional ethics. Your Discussion gives you an opportunity to consider what ethical principles are in psychology and what they might mean to you as a professional.

To prepare for this Discussion:

Read the information on ethics presented in the APA websites listed in this week’s Learning Resources.

Review the General Principles of the APA Ethical Standards from the resource titled “Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct” found in the Learning Resources

Select one of the principles and think about how it applies to your program or area of specialization.

Take the time to really envision what your success looks and feels like; really sit back and put yourself in that position and create the “you” that successfully finishes this program and how you might put what you learn into action for positive social change.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 3 a brief description of the principle you selected from the General Principles of the APA Ethical Standards you read about in “Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct.” Explain it in your own words. Explain in what way the principle could be applicable in your area of specialization and why.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to this week’s Learning Resources.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ postings.

Respond by Day 5 to two of your colleagues and continue the Discussion through Day 7. Choose one of the ethical principles discussed by your colleagues and respond with your thoughts about how positive social change relates to this ethical principle. Describe one act of positive social change that you can foresee resulting from your psychology specialization/program.

Return to this Discussion periodically to read the responses to your initial posting and reply as you wish. Note what you have learned and/or any insights you have gained as a result of the comments your colleagues made.

Critical Thinking

I need this to be done by 11:30PM EST tonight Please and thanks !!

Hi Everyone,

If you would like to learn more about making better decisions, I recommend reading the book Decisive. For a quick video summary of the book, see these two videos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmZDc5_ffvE (opens in a new window)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rhs1rjLJqhw (opens in a new window)

We are off to a good start on the Discussion Board (DB) and I will try to give you interesting topics to discuss during the semester. All of the course’s discussion boards (DBs) have Sunday night due dates so always try to post by the deadline. I grade the Discussion Board every module within a few days after the DB closes.  DB # 1 must be completed by the due date on the course calendar. I expect you to make your first post to all DBs by the Thursday before the weekend they are due. After the due date it will close and you will have missed it if you didn’t post on time (this results in an absence so try not to miss any of the DBs).

Take note that you should read all of the course articles and watch all of the videos. Many students find the videos to be the most interesting part of the course.

In terms of grades, most students do well in this course and I expect the same of you. A few students are always dropped due to violating the attendance policy (which will be enforced), but you should do very well if you stay on track and avoid violating the attendance policy (see syllabus). The course is challenging but not overly difficult. I spread the coursework out over the entire semester making it very manageable.

Your text is just one part of this course so be sure to review all of the links in each module. The videos and web sites I use are the best I have found and students usually comment that these add interesting supplementary content for the class lessons. Visual learners will find a lot to like in the course web links.

I always try to use organized modules and clear course content to make the class a good experience for students. You will find I reply to all student emails and I’m very approachable with whatever questions you may have. Look for my announcements on Sundays or Mondays during the semester to keep you updated on the week’s due dates, course material, etc.

You should complete the journal for each module by the last day of each module to keep from falling behind. Keep your journal in a MS-Word document file and add new entries as we go through the journal assignments. You will submit your completed journal (document) by uploading it to Blackboard toward the end of the course in Module 10. You may have an FTCC tutor review your journals as you do them if you have questions or if you need help with it.

Please use your college email when you email me and be sure to include your course section number. I teach multiple courses for the college so I won’t know which class you are in unless you tell me. This allows me to respond faster when answering your questions or helping you.

I am of the opinion that many online courses are boring and too focused on just the text. My teaching philosophy is to create online courses that are just as engaging as regular classes by using interesting videos and documentaries as well as lively discussion topics. I keep my courses simple and easy to follow with clear instructions and weekly announcements to keep students on track.

I like to use the discussion boards (DBs) to allow you to incorporate your opinions into the subject and to speak freely with your classmates. I think it is true that you will always learn more in life from those you disagree with rather than from those who simply say yes to your ideas. Challenge and learn from each other this semester!

The DBs are used for attendance and these cannot be made up. Do not ask me to make up a DB as this would violate college attendance policy. If you miss one, just move on to the next DB. Students should make their initial post to the DBs by Thursday of the weeks they are due so your classmates will have time to make their reply posts. I grade all the DBs carefully so be sure to write at least 200 words in your initial post and 50 words or more in your replies to classmates.

This course is always fun to teach and I think you will enjoy the material, especially the videos.

Remember, use your college email and be sure to include your course section number (I teach three sections of this course).
