Week 3 – Assignment

Introduction, Thesis Statement, and Annotated Bibliography

Prepare: To help with the preparation of your annotated bibliography, review the following tutorials and resources from the Ashford Writing Center:

Reflect: Reflect back on the Week Two Discussion in which you shared with the class the global societal issue that you would like to further address. Explore critical insights that were shared by your peers and/or your instructor on the topic chosen and begin your search for scholarly sources with those insights in mind.

Write: For this assignment, review the Annotated Bibliography Formatting GuidelinesPreview the documentView in a new window and address the following prompts:

  • Introductory Paragraph to Topic: Refer to the Final Argumentative Essay guidelines for your topic selection. Write an introductory paragraph with at least 150 words, which clearly explains the topic, the importance of further research, and ethical implications.
  • Thesis statement: Write a direct and concise thesis statement, which will become the solution to the problem that you will argue or prove in the Week Five Final Argumentative Essay. A thesis statement should be a declarative statement that makes one point in 25 words or less. The thesis statement must appear at the end of the introductory paragraph.
  • Annotated Bibliography: Develop an annotated bibliography to indicate the quality of the sources you have read. For each annotation, you need to summarize in your own words how the source contributes to the solution of the global societal issue. Your annotation should be one to two paragraphs long (150 words or more) and fully address the purpose, content, evidence, and relation to other sources you found on this topic. The annotated bibliography must include no less than five scholarly sources that will be used to support the major points of the Final Argumentative Essay. Critical thinking skills need to be demonstrated by accurately interpreting evidence used to support various positions of the topic.

Supply Chain Managemenet

Write 400–600 Words That Respond To The Following Questions With Your Thoughts, Ideas, And Comments. Be Substantive And Clear, And Use Examples To Reinforce Your >

The Director of Operations for your company has been trying to introduce logistics and supply chain management principles to your management team without much success. She has excitedly called you into her office to discuss a seminar she attended last week. During the seminar, she participated in a distribution simulation, referred to as “The Beer Game” (see supporting materials below). She commented that the simulation gave her a complete understanding of what the supply chain is, the dynamics of a supply chain, and how it operates. She also found several articles that explain logistics and supply chain management very well. She requested that you conduct research to provide her with talking points that cover the fundamentals of logistics and the supply chain. She asked that you include the following in your talking points:

·  Provide an overview of a supply chain, including the elements that make up a supply chain.

·  What are the “flows” within a supply chain, and why are they important?

·  What are supply chain coordination and supply chain disruption, and how are these manifested in a supply chain?

This week’s class reading on control charts was very really interesting, specifically the concept of “controlling” the seemingly inevitable human variation that exists with operations and manufacturing.  I’m personally a big organic food and beverage person and thought about how the production of these products utilize control charts.  Interestingly, the manufacturing method of hydraulic pressing, or cold-pressed came to mind.  The cold-pressing method is an advanced manufacturing method where hydraulic air pressure is compressively applied to fruits and vegetables, generating more nutritionally dense purees, juices, and oils while concurrently killing harmful bacteria.  Cold-processing fruits and vegetables considerably reduces a good’s shelf life to as low as five days; however, the method is preferred over pasteurization by many produce enthusiasts because it allows fruits and vegetable to retain the maximal amount of retainable nutritional value which include “vitamins, minerals, and trace [elements]” (Journey Juice, 2017).

Most cold-pressed methods require steam pressure over seven tons to extract juice and retain the nutritional content from their produce (Spiegel, 2014).  In California, many 12-ounce cold-pressed juices can cost as much as $12 (Hallock, 2015).  An even more advanced form of the cold-pressed method called high pressure processing (HPP) can apply up to 87,000 tons of pressure per square inch!  This level of hydraulic pressure is high enough to not only retain the nutritional value of a produce but this level of pressure kills common bacteria such as “salmonella, E.coli, and listeria” while preserving all of the meat item’s “nutritional integrity” (How HPP Works, 2017).  Of course, as both the cold-pressed and HPP method offer many benefits to customers, food pressurization technology increases the overall price and delivery to market god cost for customers.

Many small manufacturers use the cold-pressed juice method in their raw juice manufacturing process to differentiate themselves in the crowded natural juice market.  Below is a chart of nutritional data on juice developed by the company Journey Juice, a boutique craft juice manufacturer based in Athens, GA.  The graph compares the company’s juice extraction method with that of common-used brand-name consumer juicers.  In addition to producing more overall juice extract, Journey Juice’s cold-pressed method contains the highest concentration of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, potassium, and sodium. Along with not using preservatives or man-made additives like canola oil, GMO bi-products, or high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), Journey Juice must have strict manufacturing process controls in place to avoid add additional USDA and FDA scrutiny.  As long as the cold-pressed juicing produce stays with the specified means and variation, Journey Juice remains compliant with these federal agencies.

However, Journey Juice will potentially have a catastrophic production and public relations problem when there is internal imbalance with its control charts.  Federal intervention occurs by the aforementioned agencies when the cold-pressed process temperatures were high enough to extra nutritional value, yet, failed to reach the appropriate temperatures to kill harmful bacteria.  The temperature threshold step is critical as cold-pressed goods already are both more prone to high bacterial growth given its already reduced shelf life and are exempt from the pasteurization process.  These agencies will halt the sale and production of Journey Juice products, forcing the company to cease production, reducing the risk of other consumers from becoming sick.  Some customers with already compromised immune systems could even die from injecting or contacting these products, opening the company up to civil litigation. Given that the product is safe to sell and no bacterial infection issues exist though, many customers will become concerned when no additional nutritional value is discernable between significantly cheaper product and those produced by an improperly executed cold-pressed method.  From a marketing perspective, Journey Juice lacks a justifiable product differentiation besides its cost which most consumers and consumer watchdog groups will deem unwarranted. For Journey Juice, this proposition ultimately could lead to a loss of sales and no longer prove to be a market differentiation as a niche brand within the health juice market.  Journey Juice must maintain a resilient balance in its’ cold-press production method to satisfy both the governing authorities, consumer advocate groups, and most importantly be mindful of the holistic care of its customers.

Supply Chain

1: Political power will give you an edge and can contribute your success. if you have a problem that needs to be solved you should follow your chain of command and mention it to your immediate supervisor but sometimes its even out of their hands. for me personally I have had recommendations and suggestions and if I voice these to my immediate supervisor and nothing comes of it, I always take advantage of our upper leadership meeting that are held once a year by the “big wigs” when they ask for questions or comments at the end of their presentations I use this time to voice my concerns and get my name and face out there. It makes me look like I care about my job (which I do) and that I am concerned with the betterment of our company.

2: The composition of the team is very important to the overall success of the team.  When creating a team, it is important to get to know all of the members of the team and what their strengths and weaknesses are so you know what assignments to give each of the members.  If you are the leader of a team then your success depends on how successful your team is.  If you are not able to manage the team effectively then it looks bad on you and people will not be confident in your ability to lead.  If you are not an effective leader that will impact your future career moves.

3: I would have a one on one meeting with the loafer to see there was something going on that I could possibly help with or just to find out why they were not wanting to participate. After trying to understand what was going on with the loafer, I would then assign tasks to be completed depending on the situation. There are alot of different reasons that someone could be loafing. I think giving them the opportunity to speak about it will give a great starting place on how to deal with it. I do agree that having a follow up meeting to asses things after tasks had been delegated is also a great idea.

4: I agree that finding a great team dynamic can prove to be challenging but looking at everyone strengths and making sure you build a team with a good diversity will build one of the best teams because you will have a variety of things that are brought to the table. Some other basic attributes of a great team would be a total involvement of everyone on the team for making decisions, that when someone in the team is talking you make sure that the message is heard and understood and their point of view is valued and shared. Another good attribute is taking in to care all of the suggestions made by the team to consider all ideas and suggestions made by others and not just seeing or doing things from one old standpoint.

Discussion board response, I JUST NEED FOR YOU TO GIVE A RESPONSE TO THE QUESTION

The trade agreement that I chose is Trade and Investment Framework Agreements (TIFAs). This trade provides strategic frameworks and principles for dialogue on trade and investment issues between the United States and the other parties to the TIFA. The country that I chose is Egypt.

Although the names of Framework Agreements may vary, e.g., the Trade, Investment, and Development Agreement (TIDCA) with the South African Customs Union, or the United States-Icelandic Forum, these agreements all serve as a forum for the United States and other governments to meet and discuss issues of mutual interest with the objective of improving cooperation and enhancing opportunities for trade and investment. (USTR)

How would this trade agreement impact your strategic decision making?

I don’t think this trade agreement would hurt my strategic planning at all. The fist line in this agreement clearly states, “Desiring to enhance the partnership, friendship, and spirit of cooperation between the two countries”. If we have our business plan in order and they can see that is what we are looking to do, I honestly don’t think it would be any problems getting started in this country. “Recognizing the essential role of private investment, both domestic and foreign, in furthering growth, creating jobs, expanding trade, improving technology and enhancing economic development.” This is number six of the agreement. The business plan will include everything to help assure that is what our business goal is and why we would like to partner with them. So for strategic planning my goal would be to include these two very important (to me) guidelines into the business plan and make sure it is strong, so we can assure we are in it to help them also.

Consider the areas of the trade agreement that most threaten a successful strategic partnership with an offshore outsourcing possibility.

The only part of this agreement is article 5 part 1. “Either Party may raise for consultation between the Parties any investment matter not arising under the Investment Treaty or any trade matter. Requests for consultations shall be accompanied by a written explanation of the subject to be discussed and consultations shall be held within 30 days of request, unless the requesting party agrees to a later date.” If for any reason Egypt doesn’t feel we are complying with this trade agreement partnership they can request a consultation. This request can take up to 30 days or mare and can hinder the startup of the company or even stop that progress all together. In the event they stop the progress we would have to start from scratch and find another country to partner with.

Would this move be a good idea or not? Yes, this would be a good move. Everything goes back to having a strong plan and organization of your team. Your main goal is to make the country you are targeting comfortable and that our are working towards their advancement.

Twenty-First Century Customer Relationship Management

 Twenty-First Century Customer Relationship Management

New technologies will impact customer relationship management (CRM) due to its ability to allow customers to feel empowered enough to execute a range of independent activities and decisions. When it comes to modern customer relationship management, basic functions will remain crucial. Organizations, however, will specifically need to ensure the following:

  • The prime focus remains on always providing customers with the best experiences
  • Customer process management is effective
  • Cross-channel integration is facilitated
  • Contact center operations are robust and well monitored
  • Sales Force Automation (SFA) is made highly efficient
  • Marketing and campaign management activities produce tangible results

In Module 2, you examined the literature for consumer/client privacy issues associated with Big data. Use the University online library resources to identify at least two peer-reviewed articles that address consumer/client privacy issues associated with CRM.

Using the article as the basis for inquiry, prepare an analysis on CRM in the twenty-first century.

Cover the following:

  • Discuss the consumer/client privacy issues that might impact the uses of CRM.
  • Critically analyze the value of the CRM approach suggested by Nguyen and Mutum.
  • Compare the approach to other approaches you are familiar with.
  • Assess how the Nguyen and Mutum approach could be applied to your own organization.
  • Include what you liked and disliked about the approach.
  • Support your positions with at least two peer-reviewed journal articles.
