rganizational Assessment

As a manager, you have to continually evaluate the organization and its strategy and consistently adapt the business model to ensure that the overall business plan is one step ahead of the competition.

In this assignment, you will get an opportunity to learn, from actual experiences, how an informed manager would assess the current overall health of an organization and make decisions regarding future opportunities and performance.

Tasks:

Select an industry relevant to your career. If you lack work experience, you can base your selection on real-life market situations or business areas that you may have knowledge about. You can also consult sources such as the Wall Street Journal,Financial Times, Bloomberg Markets, the Economist, US News and World Report, and the online library resources.

  • Research the growth opportunities in the industry, competitive strategies that were employed, typical customers, and other relevant information related to the industry. Specific opportunities will differ depending on the industry selected, but be sure to consider current economic events and news relating to the industry that may influence the future direction of your industry.
  • Within this industry, select a midrange-performing company that provides goods or services. Then, address the following:
    • Analyze why this company maintains the level of success it does from an economic and financial perspective. Develop at least two visual aids (e.g., charts, graphs, or tables) to support your argument.
    • Evaluate whether the company’s pricing and positioning decisions contribute to or hinder that success.
  • Evaluate whether the strategy currently used by your industry, as discussed in previous sections, appears to be sustainable over time.

Create a 3 to 5-page research paper. At the end your paper, include a reference page and cite scholarly sources in APA style.

Assignment 1: LASA 2 – Ethical Systems and Me

What a busy five weeks we have had! We have learned to use moral reasoning and examined many ethical theories in this course. These include virtue ethics, utilitarianism, social contract, deontology with goals (Hinduism and Buddhism), deontology with divine authority (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam), relativism (individual and cultural), and deontology with a categorical imperative (Kant).

Think back about your impressions of each of these ethical systems and write a 1,000 to 1,250-word essay that addresses the following questions below. Be sure to write good introductory and concluding paragraphs in your essay.

  1. Summarize the principle components of each of the seven ethical systems studied in this course (listed above), including the principle ethicist involved in developing the system. Use two or three sentences for each ethical system.
  2. Which ethical system is most prevalent in the United States today? In the World?  Explain your answer and support your response.
  3.  Which ethical system most closely matches your personal ethical system? Why do you think so?  Explain your position.
  4. Please give a short, personal example that supports your decision to identify your ethical system (3 or 4 sentences) and explain why it does so.
  5. Examine your response to previous assignments in Modules 1 thru 4 in this course.  Are there any inconsistencies or conflict between positions you took in earlier assignments and the ethical system identified in this paper? For example, monotheists (Christians, Muslims, and Jews) believe in universal maxims. Relativists do not think universal maxims are possible.  One cannot, for example be a Christian and believe no universal maxims exist, which is a relativist position. Monotheism (Christianity) and relativism are polar opposites. If inconsistencies exist between your earlier answers and this paper, how do you resolve them in your ethical decision-making process in the real world?
  6. Add at least three references to support your analysis in this paper.

Post a 4-5-page (1000-1250 -word) paper to the M5: Assignment 1 Dropbox byMonday, August 24, 2015. Include a title and reference page (not included in the 4-5 page count). All written assignments and responses should follow citation rules for attributing sources using APA format. Please use Microsoft Word spelling/grammar checker before submitting your essay.

Read the case study about the University Clinic Associates Below:

University Clinic Associates employs over 200 physicians who are on the faculty at the University Hospitals and Clinics. With 20 specialty clinics and over 2000 clinic visits a week, accurate coding and documentation of these encounters is critical to obtaining the correct reimbursement. At present, each clinic is staffed with mostly clerical staff members who do the scheduling of appointments, registration of patients, and data entry from encounter forms for billing purposes.

To assess the current situation, William Murken, the financial manager responsible for the clinics, has hired you (an RHIT with a CCS credential) as a consultant to conduct a coding and documentation audit.

You meet with the staff to go over the records and complete the audit. After you have established a rapport, you remind staff members that accurate diagnostic and procedural coding cannot be achieved without clear and complete health record documentation. There are many instances where documentation omissions, such as the specifics of a service, can affect reimbursement.

Nowhere is this truer, you explain, than in recording Evaluation and Management Services. Virtually every physician performs E/M services. Thus, the impact of coding and documentation on the reimbursement of these services is enormous. When billed services cannot be substantiated using documentation in the health record, the physician may not get paid or may have to refund overpayment.

The staff seems to appreciate your input. One person comments, “This will give us a target as we assign medical codes in the future.”

Requirements to Include in Your Presentation

Using the above pieces of information, write a complete 1-2 page report or presentation describing your findings to the financial manager. The format used for your presentation can be a Word Document, Power Point Presentation, or Letter/Memo format. Be creative in your presentation to the Financial Manager. Your report must include:

  1. An interpretation and description of the findings in Table 1.

    • Did the clinic over or under charge overall?

    • What is the total amount?

  2. A well written conclusion to the financial manager based on your findings, including examples of the errors found.

    • Which codes were over coded, thus over billed? Which were under coded, thus under billed?

  3. Provide recommendations (being specific) on staffing, education, forms, and design.

    • Provide at least four ideas/changes the clinic can implement to improve the coding. Each idea should be specific and include supporting reasoning for why the change would improve the coding at this clinic.

Over the past weeks, you have been working on Professional Practice Activity #1 involving the E/M coding audit at University Clinic Associates. This week you finalize your written paper to the financial manager, and submit the information below in one Microsoft Word Document.

      Remember:

1.You need to interpret the findings and decide if the clinic over or under charged overall. Be sure to give the total amount of over/under charging.

2.Provide several examples from the spreadsheet that show the over and under charging for various codes.

3.Finally, provide at least four ideas/changes the clinic can implement to improve their coding going forward.

history project

Proposal Rubric: Please submit a Project Proposal of 250 words that includes the following:

1) The project needs to be as focused as possible on a narrow topic:
Suggestions for narrowing the theme:
– consider the span of time you are covering and do your best to limit it to 25 years,
– center it on a single event or period in a the History of BioMedicine from 1800-1980,
– base your investigation on a limited set (or single) primary source (e.g. publication, map, scientific documents, personal papers)

2) A thesis statement in the form of a question that reflects the aims of your research project.

3) A short Bibliography that includes:

– Primary Source(s) – At least one source that was produced during the time of, or by one of the people involved in your project.
– Secondary Sources – At least two scholarly works (essays, books) written by historians that help you to provide the social, intellectual, cultural context for the primary source.
– Formatting of sources: Use Chicago Style to format your bibliography.  Do not include URLs.

Here is a brief and useful webpage:http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide.html

4) Descriptive Title.  Think of writing titles as a poetic challenge and write one that reflects the project thesis (or question).  Avoid writing titles like: “History Proposal”

5) Makes sure to include your name, course info, date.

Essay Length: 1500 words.

Goal: Examine the development of one or two aspects of History of BioMedicine during a narrow time period (limit it to 25 years, e.g. 1900-1925).  Do not tell the history of an entire epoch (like the history of the Hospital), but rather be selective and more focused.

Some ideas:
– A specific type of medical research (surgery, vaccines, public health, medical genetics etc, but then focused a single experiment/program/person/institution).
– Biography–pick an ‘scientist or natural philosopher (Pasteur, Bernard, Budd and more obscure figures) and talk about some aspect of their work (writings).
– Focus on the medical practices of a certain area (Philadelphia nurses)
– Or on a single scientific institution (University, Academy, Laboratory)

Sources:
1) one or more primary historical sources (documents written during the time you are focusing on and by physicians, or medical administrators).  Sometimes students get confused about this, so I  will assess these in your proposal.  But if you are writing a short biographical essay about a single scientist, then a primary source would be one of his/her writings.
2) at least two secondary historical sources that place the primary sources in their historical context (works written by contemporary historians),
3) If you want, a Map from the time period.

For the topic: Focus on one narrow aspect of biomedicine, maybe focused on the NIH.  Here is a good chapter to get you going; use the sources listed in there for more on the topic.

History Discussion Need in 10 Hours

Question 1

We have discussed a lot about religion in this course.  Christianity went through a tremendous amount of changes in America (new churches, different churches, etc.).  One faith that came on the scene during the era of the Second Great Awakening was Mormonism.  This is talked about a lot now because of people like Mitt Romney and Glenn Beck. The Mormon Church is also one of the most wealthy organizations in America today.  We cannot ignore the history here.  Is this a legitimate Christian movement?  If not, what is it?  Why do you think this?  Why do you think hundreds of thousands of people flocked to it during this period of time? What do you know about Joseph Smith? Brigham Young? (125 Words)

Question 2

Immigration brings to mind that most if not all of us are immigrants.  Immigration is a big issue today just like during the period we are studying.  I have looked into my family and discovered I am Scotish/Irish/German/English/Native American.  How about you?  Anyone have any interesting stories?  I had an ancestor (a Captain in the Revolution) who was reprimanded in writing by George Washington because my ancestor’s wife was fooling around with the soldiers!  Oops!  Threatened to throw them both in the brig or have them shot.  Ouch!  Any stories? How was your ancestors or their ethnic group instrumental to this nation? Barriers to Effective Communication

The role of nursing in bridging the gap between managers and physicians in hospitals

We face challenging barriers to effective communication in the healthcare field. As our world becomes smaller, we are in constant contact with patients, colleagues, or consumers from culturally diverse backgrounds and we need to develop our skills to improve effective communication.

  • The Role of Nursing in Bridging the Gap between Managers and Physicians in Hospitals
  • Improving Communication in the Health Care Setting

Based on your research, answer the questions below writing at least five sentences per question in a Microsoft Word document. You need to think of a communication with a healthcare professional colleague to answer the following questions:

  • What barriers to effective communication could occur with a health care professional colleague who is culturally diverse? How can these barriers affect patient outcome when effective communication is essential?
  • What assumptions can you make about a healthcare professional colleague you do not know well? How can these assumptions impact your communication if your customs are different from your healthcare professional colleague’s customs and you do not understand their customs completely?
  • How can you overcome language barriers or make assumptions not based on facts to increase team unity and motivation? How important is it for you to take responsibility and improve your cultural competence?

Now you need to think of a communication with a patient or a consumer and answer the following questions:

  • What specific language barriers can result when you communicate with a patient or a consumer who speaks limited English? How can you gather information or educate when language barriers are present?
  • How do you adjust to conflicting values or traditions from patients in a specific religion or culture? For example, patients who are Jehovah’s Witness religion may refuse blood products or other religions may not eat pork. How do you adjust dietary restrictions communicating in a collaborative manner with the dietary department?
  • What are the benefits of a healthcare organization to provide cultural awareness and training for each employee to better understand and accept others? Does your current or past organization provide cultural awareness training? If not, what will be your recommendation to your management team?
  • Select one culture other than your own and describe how this culture may deal with death and mourning.

Support your responses with examples.

Think about what you have read and seen in the news on globalization. Consider the fact that the clothing we wear, the cars that we drive, the cell phones we use to communicate and the computers we use to work, are each likely to have been manufactured in whole or in part in different parts of the world. While there are still companies and firms that maintain local and national borders, it is almost unheard of in the 21st century that an industry does not maintain an international strategic position.

From an executive’s position, identify and explain at least three challenges and opportunities that might face an international executive over the next five years. Provide possible solutions of how the executive might address these issues in order for their firm to maintain a competitive advantage.

Prepare a 4-6 page paper that describes the impact of globalization on U.S. businesses. In your analysis, please include information about the impact of at least four economic drivers that might impact globalization.
